Open Enrollment

The Wayzata School Board voted to close open enrollment (families not living in the district) for the 2019-2020 school year in grades 1-12 due to capacity constraints. Applications for a small number of kindergarten-age students (1% of the class size) will be approved. Per Minnesota State Statute, siblings of existing students will have priority. If we need to, we will conduct a lottery on the applications for kindergarten in order to stay within the 1% statutory requirement.

You may continue to send and we will accept applications for all grade levels, but be aware of the School Board decision described above.

We are pleased that you are considering applying for admission to Wayzata Public Schools under the provisions of Open Enrollment. Our timeline for the 2019-2020 school year is as follows:

  • Apply October 1, 2018 through January 15, 2019
  • January 15, 2019 Parent Responsibility: Open Enrollment Applications must be received in the district by this date
  • February 15, 2019 School District Responsibility: Written Notification will be mailed to parent/guardian regarding acceptance or denial
  • March 1, 2019 Parent Responsibility: Parent/guardian must notify Wayzata Public Schools of their intent to enroll or risk losing their placement
  • March 15, 2019 School District Responsibility: Wayzata Public Schools must notify your resident district of intent to enroll your children in Wayzata Public Schools

Open Enrollment Guidelines

Wayzata Public Schools' School Board has voted to close open enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year in grades 1-12 due to capacity constraints. Applications for a small number of kindergarten-age students (1% of the class size) will be approved. Siblings of existing students will have priority. If needed, a lottery will be conducted on the applications for kindergarten in order to obtain the 1% statutory requirement.

Submit applications to welcome@wayzataschools.org.

  • There is no implied guarantee that an application will be approved
  • Only the legal parent or guardian may submit an application on behalf of a student
  • Unsigned applications will be returned
  • If we approve a student, we are guaranteeing a space in Wayzata Public Schools, ISD 284
  • If approved, we may offer you a space at the grade level you've requested but may not be able to offer you the school of your choice
  • If approved, it is your responsibility to provide transportation to the school in which you are assigned
  • If we have more applications than we can accommodate, we will hold lotteries to determine which applications will be approved

Applicants will be notified of acceptance or denial by February 15, 2019.

If the applicant is accepted, the enrollment information will accompany your acceptance letter with instructions for enrollment.

Upon acceptance, the parent or guardian must notify Wayzata Public Schools no later than March 1, 2019 of intention to enroll or the offer will be void and offered to another applicant.

Extended Vacation

Choosing to leave on an extended vacation is a family’s choice and responsibility.

Parents are expected to communicate the dates of their student’s absence in advance to the school office. Once the school is notified, please complete the Extended Vacation form and email to the Welcome Center at welcome@wayzataschools.org or fax to 763-745-5096.

Per the Minnesota Department of Education enrollment guidelines, withdrawal after 15 consecutive days of absence triggers the close of the enrollment status record.

If the extended vacation exceeds 15 school days, district-issued technology and Skyward Family Access may not be immediately available upon return.
