Immunizations (No Shots No School)
In order for students to enroll or remain enrolled in elementary or secondary schools, Minnesota state law (Minnesota Statute 121A.15) requires documentation of required immunizations or written proof of exemption. Students will not be allowed to start school or remain in school until the required immunization history or a signed legal exemption is provided to the district.
Information
Are Your Kids Ready for School? Describes the minimum immunizations required the State of Minnesota.
Where can I go to receive vaccinations for my child?
It is best to receive vaccinations from your primary care provider, but in the event that you are unable to see your primary provider or if you do not have insurance that covers the cost of vaccinations, Wayzata Public Schools is a participant in the Park Nicollet Barrier Free Immunization Initiative. This program allows immunization-only visits on a same-day appointment basis, immunizes children without a doctor visit and provides immunizations with no direct charge to families. Please visit the Park Nicollet Foundation website for a complete list of participating clinics.
You can also visit the Hennepin County Public Health Clinic if you do not have insurance coverage for vaccines.
Forms

For more information about immunizations, call 763-745-6616 or 763-745-5763.
Intra-District Building Transfer Request
Students are expected to attend the school designated for their geographical area. Exceptions to this will be considered if there is capacity in the school and grade being requested. In addition, the family must provide their own transportation to and from school.
Requests will be evaluated based on:
- Available space in requested building
- Parental willingness to arrange private transportation
Submission of request does not guarantee a transfer. Approval or denial will be provided to Parent/Guardian via email after evaluation by administrators.
Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) - Counting All Students Initiative
Why does the state collect data on individual students?
One way the Minnesota Department of Education currently gathers information on students is through the Minnesota Automated Reporting Student System (MARSS) Web Edit System. MARSS is our primary reporting system for collecting individual student data from districts. The information collected is used to compile student counts and average daily membership, which helps us calculate how much funding each district receives. The secure system also collects student demographics as well as some of the programs students participate in.
What’s changing?
New legislation (Minnesota Statutes, sections 120B.31, subdivision 3a and 120B.35, subdivision 3) requires the Minnesota Department of Education to report graduation rates, results of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA), and more, by detailed ethnicity for students of color and American Indian students. This legislation is referred to as the All Kids Count Act, and the more-detailed reporting is called data disaggregation.
What information are these data intended to provide?
- Where do ethnic disparities exist inside racial groups in areas such as graduation rates and MCA scores?
- What additional information is available when we provide reports and comparisons with more detail beyond the minimum federally reporting requirement?
For more information, visit the Minnesota Department of Education website.
Open Enrollment
Statewide enrollment options, informally known as open enrollment, is Minnesota’s public school choice option that allows students and parents to have access to schools that are not within their resident district. This program allows student enrollment from one school district into another
2021-2022 School Year
The Wayzata School Board has voted to close open enrollment (families not living within school district boundaries) for the 2021-2022 school year in grades 1-12 due to capacity constraints. Applications for a small number of kindergarten-age students (1% of the class size) were approved. Per Minnesota State Statute, siblings of existing students and children of school district employees have priority. If needed, additional kindergarten seats are filled by a lottery to stay within the 1% statutory requirement.
If you would like to apply for 2021-2022 admission to Wayzata Public Schools under the provisions of open enrollment, our timeline is as follows:
- Apply October 1, 2020 through January 15, 2021

- February 15, 2021 School District Responsibility: Written Notification will be mailed to parent/guardian regarding acceptance or denial
- March 1, 2021 Parent Responsibility: Parent/guardian must notify Wayzata Public Schools of their intent to enroll or risk losing their placement
- March 15, 2021 School District Responsibility: Wayzata Public Schools must notify your resident district of intent to enroll your children in Wayzata Public Schools
