Countdown to Carnival
Save the date! The Greenwood Carnival: Reimagined is coming Friday, May 13 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM, outdoors at Greenwood. This fun-filled, family event is a Greenwood tradition you won’t want to miss! Whether this is your first Greenwood Carnival, or you’re anxiously awaiting the event’s return, there is some important information every family should know about our biggest PTA-sponsored community event of the school year.
Fun Games & Attractions
This year's Carnival will have a reimagined format, while maintaining some of the most beloved aspects of Greenwood Carnivals past, such as the Pop Toss, Junk Food Walk, Wacky Hair, and inflatables. New attractions include a 50-yard dash, DJ & dancing, a magician and more! Also new this year, we'll be hosting several food trucks to handle concessions. (More information about food is included below.)
To help plan your family’s Carnival experience, an event map will be sent home with students the week of May 9.
Please keep in mind the Carnival is not a drop-off event; all students must be accompanied by an adult.
Carnival Tickets
Carnival tickets, which are used for games and attractions the night of the event, will be sold for 50 cents each. Most attractions cost 1 to 3 tickets. New this year is the option of purchasing a wristband for $20 to gain unlimited access to most* of the games and attractions. (*Excludes Pop Toss & Junk Food Walks – 3 tickets/each.)
Once again this year, tickets are available in advance through our ticket presale. Order forms were sent home with students in late April, or you can print a new form at home. Presale orders are due to the Greenwood Office by Friday, May 6, and tickets will be sent home with students the week of the May 9.
Additional tickets will be available for purchase on-site the night of the Carnival – cash or Venmo only. To avoid long lines the night of the Carnival, we’re highly encouraging families to purchase tickets and/or wristbands via the presale order form!
Worth noting, while ticket sales support the cost of the event itself, the Carnival is no longer a PTA fundraiser. Instead of auctions or raffles, the Carnival is all about coming together to have fun as a Greenwood community!
Calling All Volunteers!
More than 100 volunteers are needed to make the Carnival a success, from setup to supervising games to clean-up and more. Volunteering is fun and easy; a Carnival committee leader will tell you exactly what you need to do during your shift.
New this year, we’re offering family-friendly shifts that allow students to help out alongside an adult family member(s). The event will run best if every Greenwood family plans to take at least one shift, whether individual or family. As the saying goes, it takes a village!
To review available shifts and sign up to volunteer, visit our Carnival Sign-Up Genius.
Great Food & Treats
Concessions will be available for purchase at the Carnival from the following lineup of food trucks, or feel free to pack a picnic or snacks for your family if you prefer!
Philly Xpress
Chili Lime
Yummy Tummy
Kona Ice
Honey & Mackie’s
Please note, Carnival tickets are not valid for food truck purchases – cash or card only.
Parking & Shuttle Information – IMPORTANT!
Please plan to use the off-site parking and shuttle service the night of Carnival, unless your family can safely walk or bike to the event. (Plenty of designated bike parking will be available near the 50-yeard dash!) The outdoor Carnival is loaded with fun, but all the food and games cover a lot of ground. There will be NO PARKING on-site at Greenwood or Peace Lutheran.
For your convenience, two off-site parking options are available:
Oakwood Elementary - 17340 County Rd 6, Plymouth, MN 55447
Glory of Christ Lutheran Church - 4040 County Rd 101, Plymouth, MN 55446
A complimentary shuttle bus service will transport visitors between the two off-site parking locations and the Carnival, running from 4:45 – 8:30 PM. To avoid entering the Greenwood parking lot, shuttle buses will drop-off and pick-up Carnival visitors at Peace Lutheran Church, right next door to Greenwood.
On-site parking will be strictly limited to handicap and/or early access requests, vendors, Greenwood teachers/staff, Carnival chairpersons and setup-volunteers only. Volunteers helping with event setup are encouraged to carpool or arrange to be dropped off. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with the Carnival parking policies, which will ensure the event is safe and successful for everyone.
We would also like to extend a huge thank you to the Plymouth Police Department for its presence at the Carnival and helping keep our school community safe. Thank you, Plymouth Police!
Early Access Requests
Students with special needs or circumstances who may benefit from a quieter environment are invited to arrive at 4:45 PM to preview the Carnival before the event opens to the public. If this would benefit your child, please call the school office before Thursday, May 12 to be added to the Early Access Request list. Please note, during the early access time, children must be accompanied at all times and some attractions may still be undergoing setup.
