Greenwood PTA’s mission is to support and advocate for our children by partnering with staff and families to create a high-quality learning environment where students can excel and feel confident in themselves. We will accomplish this by:
- Strengthening the educational and social environment of Greenwood elementary via community-building events and service opportunities.
- Supporting staff resourcefulness and promoting best practices by funding needs and initiatives that directly impact classrooms and children, including literacy efforts.
- Complementing the school curriculum with additional opportunities for parents, teachers and students to learn, communicate and grow.
- Increasing parental interest and involvement in our PTA chapter by building awareness of the critical role our organization has in supporting our school.
- Maintaining a strategic financial plan for evaluating and prioritizing expenditures.
- Continually evaluating the effectiveness of PTA efforts by requesting and responding to feedback from parents and staff.
- Conducting purposeful fundraising to support Greenwood initiatives.
Our Student Directory is a great resource for all families when organizing events, planning play dates and staying in touch. Families must sign up each school year to be included in the directory. Please make sure your current contact information is included.

Countdown to Carnival
Save the date! The Greenwood Carnival is Friday, March 15, 5:30-8:30 p.m. This fun-filled, family event is a Greenwood tradition you won’t want to miss. Whether you’re new to Greenwood, or you’ve attended in years past, there’s some important information every family should know about our second-largest PTA fundraiser of the year.
Carnival tickets, which are used for games, attractions and concession purchases the night of the event, are 50 cents each. Most attractions cost 1 to 4 tickets, while food purchases range from 2 to 8 tickets. (Note: R Taco will be accepting cash only, not tickets.) You can save time in line by purchasing tickets in advance using the Presale Ticket Form, which will also be sent home with students this week. Presale orders are due Friday, March 8.
Calling All Volunteers
More than 100 adults are needed to set up, help sell tickets and food, and supervise games and activities. It’s easy — a leader will tell you exactly what you need to know. You’re welcome to split a shift with another family member so everyone has a chance to enjoy the Carnival fun. View volunteer opportunities and sign up to join the fun!
We also need volunteers to help assemble classroom theme baskets the week of Carnival. Grab a friend and Sign Up to help!
No Food or Pop Donations Needed
This year, the PTA will not be collecting Junk Food or Pop donations for the popular Junk Food Walk and Pop Toss game rooms. Instead, we’re encouraging families to consider contributing items to classroom theme baskets, and allocating dollars toward the purchase of Carnival tickets. Thank you, as always, for the ongoing generosity of our Greenwood families!
It’s Classroom Theme Basket Time!
Each year, we ask our Greenwood teachers to select a theme and collect donations from their students/families for our Theme Basket Auction at the Carnival. 2019 Carnival Classroom Basket Themes are listed for each classroom. All teachers will be accepting donations of NEW items for the baskets immediately.
The theme basket committee is also looking for donations of wicker baskets in various sizes. If you've won a basket at a past Carnival and are willing to return it, or if you have some others you can spare, please contact Laura Benson at email@example.com or Charu Tyagi at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Does your family have stuffed animals that you are willing to part with? Please help one of our most popular Carnival rooms by donating your gently used stuffed animals in the large box in the front hallway marked Adopt-A-Pet. They will be cleaned and made available at the Carnival Adopt-A-Pet room.
Box Tops for Education
If your child turned in Box Tops before February 22, Carnival tickets will be delivered to his/her classroom before the event. The PTA will not be collecting Box Tops the night of the Carnival.
Fun News in Carnival Food!
New this year, R Taco will be at Carnival, accepting cash only (not tickets) – 2 tacos for $8, or 3 for $11. Many classic Carnival concessions will also be available including: Domino’s pizza (5 tickets/slice or 8 tickets/“meal deal”), Berry Blendz smoothies (5 tickets), Culver’s frozen custard (4 tickets), cotton candy (4 tickets), popcorn (2 tickets), candy (2-3 tickets), pop and water (2 tickets). Come hungry!
New this year! To alleviate parking concerns experienced in past years, the PTA has arranged for overflow parking at Hamel Legion Park (Brockton Lane south of Hamel Road in the baseball field parking lot). Two full-size school buses will shuttle back and forth to Greenwood throughout the Carnival. Please consider parking at Hamel Legion Park and riding the shuttle buses. Thanks in advance!
Sensory or Medical Needs?
Students with sensory or medical needs who may benefit from a quieter environment are invited to arrive early to experience the Carnival before the doors open to the public at 5:30 p.m. If this would help your child, please enter school through the Home Base Door 6 beginning at 5:00 p.m. Please note, you must accompany your child at all times, and some attractions may still be undergoing setup.
Please view the Carnival Brochure and Map in advance to help your family plan for Carnival.
