Construction Projects in Full Swing
A number of construction projects have recently been completed, are underway or are scheduled to begin this summer in Wayzata Public Schools. As part of the November 2017 referendum, voters approved building North Woods Elementary that opened fall 2019, as well as media center renovations and site safety improvements to the district’s elementary and middle schools.
Early Learning School/Oakwood Elementary
Construction was completed in Fall of 2020 on the new Wayzata Early Learning School, built as an addition to Oakwood Elementary School. The new two-story addition is home to programs that are currently a part of the Early Learning School including: preschool, early childhood family education, early childhood special education and early childhood screening. Oakwood now has a second gymnasium, playground, art room and an expanded parent drop-off area as part of the project.
Middle School Construction and Improvements
Improvements and renovations to Central Middle School included: a new media center and cafeteria that opened fall 2019, an updated auditorium that was completed in December and a number of site safety improvements to the bus loop and parking lot. Sidewalks, curbs and the north access road will be completed in summer 2020.
East Middle School also received a new media center that opened in the fall 2019, as well as a new performing arts area that was ready in time for student winter concerts in December. In addition, a new fitness area featuring exercise equipment and classroom space for physical activities was completed in January 2020.
West Middle School is scheduled to receive a renovated media center and gymnasium/auditorium, as well as two updated baseball fields in the summer of 2020.
Elementary Media Centers and Site Safety Improvements
Kimberly Lane, Sunset Hill and Greenwood Elementary schools will receive updated media centers and site safety improvements during the summer of 2020. Birchview, Gleason Lake and Plymouth Creek are scheduled to receive updated media centers and site safety improvements during the summer of 2021.
