2023 Election
Election Process
Four seats on the Wayzata School Board are up for election on November 7, 2023 to serve four-year terms. Affidavits of Candidacy will be available from the school district election clerk at the Wayzata Public Schools Administration Building, 16000 41st Avenue North, Plymouth, Minnesota. The Affidavits of Candidacy form is also available online.
A candidate for the Wayzata School Board must:
- Be an eligible voter,
- Be twenty-one (21) years of age or more on assuming office,
- Have been a resident of the school district from which the candidate seeks election for 30 days before the election, and
- Must have no other affidavit on file for any other office at the same general election.
The period for filing affidavits begins on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 and ends on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 5 p.m. A filing fee of $2 must also be paid.
A candidate information session will be held at the Wayzata City Hall, 600 Rice St. E., Wayzata on Monday, July 24 from 7-8:30 p.m. Attendance is optional for this candidate information session.

School Board Candidate Forum Sept. 21
The League of Women Voters Wayzata-Plymouth Area will host a Candidate Forum for the Wayzata School Board. There are four School Board seats on the November 7, 2023 ballot.
The Forum is free and open to the public and will be held on September 21 at 7 p.m. at Plymouth City Hall, 3400 Plymouth Blvd., Plymouth, MN. The Forum will be live, live-streamed, and recorded for future public viewing online. Go to www.lwvwpa.org for more information about the Candidate Forum.

2023 Board Election Results
The following four candidates who have been elected to serve four-year terms on the Wayzata School Board:
- Sheila Prior, 5,966 votes
- Paras Bhende, 5,695 votes
- Dan Ginestra, 5,371 votes
- Valentina Eyres, 3,645 votes
Newly-elected Board members will begin their terms at the January 8, 2024 organizational meeting joining current Board members: Sarah Johansen, Heidi Kader and Milind Sohoni.
Wayzata School Board meetings are typically held the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m at the Creekside Building, located at 16000 41st Avenue N in Plymouth. The Board also conducts work sessions the fourth Monday of every month at 4 p.m. at the Creekside Building.
2022 Election
Results
Sheila Prior has been elected by district voters to serve a one-year term on the School Board for Wayzata Public Schools. Prior received the greatest number of votes from among a field of four candidates vying for the open seat. Here is a summary of the vote totals:
- Sheila Prior - 9,773 votes
- Erin Shelton - 7,337 votes
- Jay Hesby - 5,745 votes
- Miriam Siddiqui - 3,876 votes
Prior will begin serving the one-year term in November. Election results are officially canvassed at the November 14 Wayzata School Board meeting.

Election Process
The school board of Wayzata Public Schools has seven members who are elected at large, to four-year terms. Elections for school board members are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November in odd-numbered years. The 2022 School Board election is a special election for (1) one seat for a (1) one-year term.
A candidate for the school board must meet the following qualifications:
- Be at least 21-years-old at the time the term of office begins
- Have resided in the school district for 30 days prior to the election
- Be an eligible voter, which includes the requirement that the individual be a citizen of the U.S

2021 Election
Results
Three candidates have been elected by district voters to serve on the School Board for Wayzata Public Schools. Sarah Johansen, Heidi Kader, and Milind Sohoni received the greatest number of votes from among a field of 12 candidates vying for the three open seats. Here is a summary of the vote totals:
- Sarah Johansen - 6,125 Votes
- Heidi Kader - 5,632 Votes
- Milind Sohoni - 4,809 Votes
The elected candidates will begin serving four-year terms at the January School Board meeting on January 10, 2022. Election results will be officially canvassed at the November 8 School Board meeting.

Am I registered to vote?

Complete a Voter Registration Application Form, then follow the instructions on the form to mail in your voter registration.

In Person
From September 17, 2021 to November 1, 2021 (Day prior to Election Day), you can visit Wayzata Public Schools District Administration Building at 210 County Road 101 N (Building in front of Gleason Lake Elementary) from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to register to vote, request an absentee ballot, or vote absentee in-person. City of Minnetonka residents should follow the City of Minnetonka voting requirements.
Election Day
You can register or update your registration when you vote at your polling place or at an early voting location. You will need proof of residence. Visit the Secretary of State’s website to learn more about documentation needed.
Absentee Voting
Absentee voting starts 45 days prior to each election (September 17, 2021). All eligible voters are allowed to vote absentee in Minnesota for any reason.
Absentee voting requires more steps than voting on Election Day. Absentee voters must complete an application to receive a ballot, and a certificate when casting the absentee ballot. Election judges compare the two documents before accepting the ballot. Absentee voting may be done in person or by mail.
In Person
Beginning 45 days prior to an election (September 17, 2021), District residents can vote in person from 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Wayzata Public Schools District Administration Building at 210 County Road 101 N. City of Minnetonka residents should follow the City of Minnetonka voting requirements.

Witnesses
Please be aware that witnesses are required for absentee ballots in 2021. Any registered Minnesota voter can serve as a witness for an absentee voter.
