Superintendent search process

The Wayzata School Board officially launched the search for the district’s next superintendent in the fall of 2025.  The district partnered with the Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) Executive Search Service to guide the process.

MSBA hosted a live virtual Q&A session to provide accurate information about the search process.

Survey and focus group feedback informs Superintendent search

The Wayzata School Board would like to thank everyone who participated in the public engagement portion of the district's superintendent search. The number of people who participated in this phase exceeded expectations, and we believe this high rate of participation shows the deep connection between the district and its school communities.

This report includes both qualitative and quantitative data from the survey responses along with input gathered from focus groups. To complete this report, a staff member of the district's selected search firm (MSBA) first compiled all quantitative data in the first section of the report. Another staff member then personally read every response to the survey's open-ended questions, as well as comments submitted through the focus groups. While reading these comments, each one was tagged (including some tagged multiple times depending on the comment - for example, “We have great teachers, strong academics, and are fiscally sound,” would have been tagged with “teachers”, “academics,” and “finance"). All tags were then counted to identify the most common themes, and these results were then run through an artificial intelligence program to create the report's summary statements. Finally, each summary statement was then proofed and edited by MSBA staff to ensure alignment with the original responses.

The school board reviewed the Public Engagement Summary Report at a special meeting held February 4, 2026. At this meeting MSBA highlighted the strong alignment between constituent responses and the Leadership Profile already identified by the school board, both quantitative as well as qualitative data submitted. Using this information the board will now lean heavily on the Report to help inform their deliberations and discovery regarding candidates and interview questions. These school community survey results are a crucial part of the superintendent search process and have given the board solid insights and much-needed feedback moving forward. So again, the Wayzata School Board extends a sincere thank you to all who participated in the public engagement phase of the superintendent search!
