Policy 626 - Nonpublic Student Participation

I. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance for the participation of nonpublic students in school activities.

II. General Statement of Policy

In accordance with the statutory discretionary authority provided to school boards regarding District resident students who are not enrolled in the public schools, the School Board of Wayzata Public Schools establishes the following as policy of District 284:

A. Participation in curricular programs may or may not be allowed based on class size, staffing, facility availability and other factors as determined by the Superintendent or the Superintendent’s designee.

B. Shared time students will not be included in the school district population for mandated state testing.

C. Nonpublic school students may participate on the same basis as public school students in activities and athletics sponsored by Community Education, but except as noted below, may not participate in extracurricular or co-curricular activities at either the elementary, middle
school, or high school levels.

D. By Minnesota statute resident pupils who receive instruction in a home school (where five or fewer students receive instruction) may fully participate in extracurricular activities of the school district on the same basis as other public school students.

E. State and district-wide tests administered through District 284 will be made available, upon request, to nonpublic students at a time and place to be determined by the Superintendent or designee.
