Policy 220 - School Board Member Compensation

I. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to affirm the authority of the School Board to fix a compensation rate for its members.

II. General Statement of Policy

A. State law provides that the School Board may fix a compensation rate for its members. The compensation of Board members may be adjusted annually at the first Organizational/Regular Board meeting of the new calendar year each January. The said adjustment will reflect the average compensation of like size and location districts. In addition, the School Board may consider compensation rates for Board officers, and for Special meetings that fall on non-regularly scheduled meeting days.

B. The members of the School Board may be reimbursed for expenses incurred in performance of Board functions according to rates established by the Board for school employees (reference Board Policy 717: Expense Reimbursements and the accompanying regulations for further details).
