Standard Response Protocol (SRP)

We use the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) to ensure clear, consistent communication during any safety event.

Standard Response Protocol (SRP)

Here is what each action means:

  • Hold: Students and staff stay inside their classrooms and keep the hallways completely clear. This is used for minor situations, like a medical issue in a hallway.
  • Secure: All exterior doors are locked, and no one may enter or exit the building. School activities continue normally inside. This is used for potential safety threats outside in the neighborhood.
  • Lockdown: Students and staff move out of sight, turn off lights, and silence phones. This action is used if there is a threat inside the building. Law enforcement handles building clearing and student release.
  • Evacuate: Students and staff quickly exit the building to a designated safe zone. This is used for physical building issues, like a fire or gas leak.
  • Shelter: Everyone moves to the designated severe weather shelter areas within the school building.

What families should do during an incident

If your child's school experiences an active emergency or safety protocol, please follow these rules to help our teams respond effectively:

  • Do not call the school: School phone lines must stay clear so staff can communicate with emergency responders.
  • Do not drive to the school: Arriving at the building can block emergency vehicles and traffic routes needed by police and fire departments.
  • Check your phone and email: We send live text and email updates directly to families. Make sure your contact details are kept up to date in Skyward Family Access.
  • Avoid social media rumors: Only share official, verified updates published directly by the district website or our official social channels.

Daily visitor policies

To protect our learning environments, all school perimeter doors are locked during the school day.

  • Check-in: All visitors must enter exclusively through the main front office, present a valid photo ID, and wear a visible visitor badge at all times.
  • Entry restrictions: The district reserves the right to deny building entry for safety or behavioral concerns. Visitors are not permitted inside during active safety drills or emergency situations.
