Marc DeVoe - East Middle School
Wayzata East Middle School is pleased to present Marc DeVoe as the November Employee of the Month.
Marc has taught in Wayzata since 2005 and has been with East since 2008. Marc teaches physical education
and is the athletic coordinator for East. He has served in a variety of leadership roles and consistently
volunteers to support student experiences.
His colleague Scott Critzer shared the following about Marc, “I see Marc going above and beyond as a staff
member at East. He does this quietly and without need for recognition. I see Marc designing and
implementing engaging lessons for all his PE classes. I see him teaching through the window in my classroom.
I see Marc after school leading the girls’ tennis team. I see him working with the students as I walk to my car
each night. I see Marc leading the 6th grade track meet. Just last week I saw him out on the track giving
guidance to a few students. I know that Marc also helps with the cafeteria supervision. Marc is deserving of
this recognition for Employee of the Month!”
A key element to student success is the sense of belonging at school. Marc is a true expert at making this
happen for students. In the halls and in the lunchroom Marc is engaging with students and calling them each
by name. He knows what interests they have and he is quick to match their interest or ability with a
suggestion for an after-school program that may interest them.
Marc DeVoe exemplifies what a middle school teacher should be. He puts the students first, understands
their needs, stays focused on his curriculum, finds innovative ways to engage students and is tirelessly
committed to students and Wayzata East Middle School.
