Wayzata Public Schools

Digital Accessibility

Our commitment to digital inclusion

At Wayzata Public Schools, we believe that education is for everyone. This commitment extends to our digital environment. We are dedicated to ensuring that our websites, mobile applications, and digital resources are accessible to students, families, staff, and community members of all abilities.

The standard we follow

Starting April 2026, our district has officially adopted the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA as our technical standard. This is the same standard required by the U.S. Department of Justice for all public entities.

What this means for you:

  • Perceivable: Information is presented in ways everyone can see or hear (e.g., alt-text for images and captions for videos).
  • Operable: Our sites can be navigated using only a keyboard or other assistive devices.
  • Understandable: Content is written in plain language and the website behaves in predictable ways.
  • Robust: Our tools are designed to work with a wide range of assistive technologies, like screen readers.

Need help accessing something?

If you find any of our digital content, such as a PDF, video, or webpage, is difficult to use or understand, please let us know. We are committed to providing you with the information you need in a format that works for you.

Our journey toward full accessibility

Ensuring 100% accessibility across thousands of district webpages and documents is an ongoing process. While we officially adopted the WCAG 2.1 Level AA standard in April 2026, you may still encounter older "legacy" documents that are still being updated.

Our current priorities include:

  • Converting high-traffic PDF forms into accessible web pages.
  • Adding high-quality captions to all videos.
  • Training all staff on how to create accessible classroom materials.
