Summar FAQs

Lunch and Snacks
Breakfast snacks and an afternoon snack are provided.  Students need to provide their own lunch from home.  Unfortunately our Wayzata Cafes department does not have the capacity to serve summer meals.

Field Trips
We are excited to announce that students in grades 1-6 will be going on off-site field trips this summer.  We have been slowly integrating field trips back into non-school days and summer.   We are in the process of planning and booking trips.  We will share the calendar once it is finalized.

Programming
We will continue to implement activities, special events, and student choice into our summer programming.  Our goals this summer are to incorporate more youth voices, which means having more student-led and student chosen programming.  In addition, we intend to further limit the amount of technology that is available for students during the day.

Staffing & Support
Wayzata Kids maintains a 1:15 staff-to-student ratio and strives to provide additional support for students who occasionally need assistance. However, we are a group-based program and do not offer constant 1:1 support.

Our summer team includes school-year staff, seasonal staff, retirees, and high school students. All staff receive training in first aid, CPR, and basic child development, but may not have specific training in special education.

Program Environment
Wayzata Kids is a choice-based program where students are encouraged to explore their interests, move freely between spaces, and participate in activities they enjoy. We prioritize fostering independence, autonomy, and a culture of respect. Students are expected to consistently make safe, thoughtful choices that prioritize their well-being and the safety of others.

While Wayzata Kids offers a dynamic and supportive environment, we recognize that the program may not be the best fit for every child. If you have any questions or would like more information, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Registration
Current Wayzata Kids families must register by 4:00 p.m. on the last day of registration to guarantee care for the upcoming summer program.

    • Changes after May 1 will be charged the contract change fee
    • Withdrawals of contracts after May 1 will be charged the 20 day minimum requirement.
    • All families will be required to pay for 20 days whether they attend or not (after May 1)
    • Drop-in days accepted based on space availability.
