Registration Process

School Year Registration Process for Incoming Families

  • Families not currently in Wayzata Kids need to register by the last day of registration to be included in the lottery.
  • Families that register by 4:00 p.m. on the last day of registration will be placed in a lottery by school site. This is a change from the previous first-come, first-serve process.
  • The number of student contracts accepted in the lottery at each site will be determined by staffing.
  • Waitlist Process
    • Our district-wide program capacity is 1,250 children after-school daily. Once we reach the capacity, a waitlist will be created with a maximum of 250 families being added to the list.
    • Families will receive an email letting them know if they are in the program, on the waitlist, or not enrolled/not on the waitlist.
    • If site capacity changes, families on the waitlist will be notified.

School Year Registration process for families currently in the Wayzata Kids program

  • A current family is a family that has an accepted current contract for the current school year. A summer contract without a current school year contract does not qualify.
  • Current Wayzata Kids families must register by 4:00 p.m. on the last day of registration to guarantee care for the upcoming school year.
  • This includes elementary preschool students with current non-school day contracts.

Summer Registration

  • Current Wayzata Kids families must register by 4:00 p.m. on the last day of registration to guarantee care for the upcoming summer program.
  • Registrations will be accepted in this order:
    • Current school-year Wayzata Kids families
    • Current school-year Wayzata Kids pending list families
    • Wayzata Families (not current Wayzata Kids families or pending list families)
    • Families that live out of district
  • If a site should reach capacity before numbers 2-4 are accepted, a lottery will be conducted. The lottery will follow the same process as the school year.
  • Families must register for at least 20 days
  • Families have until May 1 to change their schedule without any fees
    • Changes after May 1 will be charged the contract change fee
    • Withdrawals of contracts after May 1 will be charged the 20 day minimum requirement.
    • All families will be required to pay for 20 days whether they attend or not (after May 1)
    • Drop-in days accepted based on space availability.
  • Families that register after the registration deadline will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis after all other families (a-d above) have been accepted.

Reasons for the lottery system

The Wayzata Kids team has spent some time analyzing the registration process for before and
after-school childcare. We hope that by adjusting some of the processes, it will allow for an
easier process for families.

  • First-come, first-serve process was a barrier to families that were unable to register right at 8:00 a.m.
  • A lottery system for families not currently in Wayzata Kids will provide an opportunity for all families to register within the designated registration week.
