Yes! Some teachers choose to volunteer their time, but most do get paid. Some receive an hourly rate, others prefer a per student rate.

There is a great deal of flexibility in class design, but here are some general guidelines.

• Most classes tend to be between one and a half to two hours long.
• You can teach a topic that lasts a single session or have multiple sessions - two sessions, three sessions, weekly sessions, twice a week sessions or whatever is appropriate for your class.
• Youth classes can be offered after school, evenings or on Saturdays.
• Adult classes can be offered Monday through Thursday evenings between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. and between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

We receive many proposals every year and carefully consider three factors.

1. How does the proposed class fit with our other offerings?
2. Will it successfully attract students?
3. Is it a fit for our community?

Class fees are based on the cost of the instructor, plus a percentage for our operating and promotional costs.

We promote all classes on this website, as well as in our seasonal Community Ed catalogs. Catalogs are mailed to all households in the district three times per year.
