Activities

All students in grades 6-8 are welcome to join. Meets Mondays, beginning Sept.18.  4:10 pm -5:20 pm. Rooms D103 and D108 Space is limited.

The goal of the Math League is to encourage students’ love of mathematics. We provide an opportunity for students to meet other mathletes and engage in conversations and learn about all thing’s math. Students participate in math contests and are provided recognition for excelling in mathematics.  The season runs from September through January. Curriculum covered is 6-8 grade. There are 5 competitions, each consisting of 2 individual rounds and a team round.   All mathletes can compete as an individual and will be part of a scoring or practice team.  Mathletes MUST attend practices to be eligible for the scoring team. 

Registration forms are due to the main office by September 15th.  Registration is now closed

Students who would like to join Math League will need to complete an activities registration form.

Advanced Weightlifting is open to 7th and 8th graders as well as 6th graders that have participated in the first session of Weight Lifting.  

Meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Date of start: February 6, 2024 - March 7th.

Meet in the weight room 4:10 - 5:20 p.m.

Limited to 25 participants.

Chess Club is open to students grades 6 - 8, and will be held on Mondays, beginning January 8, 2024 in room C10. Other games will be available as well.

Technovation is an enriching program for girls and non-binary individuals interested in coding, business, and problem solving. 

Every other Thursday beginning December 14, 2023.

Registration is open.  Limited participation.  

Wednesdays in room E119. 4:10 - 5:20 p.m. There are three sessions to choose from:

Session I November 29 - January 10 (This session is now full)

Session II January 31 - March 6 (This session is now full) 

Session III April 10 - May 15

Additional $5 supply fee required for each session.  Please use a separate registration form for each session.

Chamber Strings is open to 7th and 8th grade Orchestra students, as well as 6th graders with previous experience.

Students will meet on Thursdays at 8:15 - 9:00 am beginning January 11, 2024.

Jazz Band is open to 7th and 8th graders.  Students will meet on Tuesday and Thursdays at 8:50 am beginning January 23, 2024.

Hands on experiments in a fun atmosphere.  Grades 6 -8.

Meets on Thursdays beginning Nov. 30, 2023, from 4:10 -5:20 p.m. in room C103.

Space is limited to 35 participants.

Math Masters is open to 6th graders that qualify for the competition. All math students in 6th grade are welcome to take part in the placement testing and can continue to practice regardless of a team assignment qualification.

Practices will be on Wednesdays beginning  January 3rd, 2024, and continue through February, with the competition on the morning of Saturday, March 2nd.

The event includes an individual number facts/order of operations round, four individual problem-solving rounds and three group problem-solving rounds with team members cooperating over the solutions. The competition lasts approximately three to four hours, including short breaks.  Awards given at the competition include participation certificates for all members, individual place awards and team plaques.

Limited to the first 45 students to register.  Intramural registrations are to be brought to the front office.  There is no online registration for this activity.

Registration for our CMS MathCounts team is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Registration is now open.  

We will begin practicing on Tuesday, November 14th.   room (C06) on Tuesdays, beginning November 14, 2023

Chapter Competition (City of Lakes South) is to be determined. The Chapter Meet will most likely be on a
Saturday. Note:  Only the top 10-12 team members will compete in February.
State Meet (if we qualify)

Come check out Science Club where students get prepped for the Science Bowl where students compete in teams to solve problems and answer questions in all branches of science and math! Teams go head to head Jeopardy style to see who will win!

Meetings will be every WEDNESDAY after school (4:15-5:25) from September - December. First meeting will be Wednesday September 27th in the MEDIA CENTER.

This year, we will use the Scripps National Spelling Bee’s online testing platform to hold our Wayzata Central Middle School spelling bee via an online spelling test. The deadline to take the online bee is January 25, 2024 at 11:59pm.

• The first step to spelling bee participation for your child is registering for the online testing platform by visiting https://online-test.spellingbee.comLinks to an external site. 
• Should you need assistance, please watch this video tutorial that will walk you through the registration process:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ThKRsffiFcLinks to an external site.
• Once you have registered, your child will be assigned the appropriate test. Your child must complete the test before the given deadline. Tests can be taken on any device with a web browser, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones. Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge are our preferred browsers. We do not support Safari for desktop or Internet Explorer.
• One student from CMS, who receives the highest score, will be named our school champion and will move on to compete at the regional level. The regional spelling bee program may also include online tests in lieu of in-person spelling bee events.

Floorball is a non-contact indoor team sport similar to floor hockey.  It is played with a composite stick and a ball.

Floorball Club will run every Tuesday in the gym from 4:10 - 5:20 pm beginning March 5th - May 14th. 

Participation is limited to 20.

Sticks, nets, and balls provided.  Participants should have gym shoes and athletic attire.  

Badminton is open to all grades, no experience necessary.  Students will learn the basic fundamentals of the sport of badminton, play each other for recreation, or in a tournament situation.

Tuesdays and Thursdays in the gym beginning April 9 - May 2.  Racquets and birdies provided.  Please wear comfortable clothes and gym shoes.
