Mondays, beginning September 15, 2025. Open to all grades.

The goal of the Math League is to encourage students’ love of mathematics. We provide an opportunity for students to meet other mathletes and engage in conversations and learn about all thing’s math. Students participate in math contests and are provided recognition for excelling in mathematics.  The season runs from September through January. Curriculum covered is 6-8 grade. There are 5 competitions, each consisting of 2 individual rounds and a team round.   All mathletes can compete as an individual and will be part of a scoring or practice team.  Mathletes MUST attend practices to be eligible for the scoring team.

In Art Club we will explore a variety of mediums to create mini artworks to take home.

SCIENCE BOWL  2025 - 2026  Registration is now open.

Students in Science Bowl will compete in teams to solve problems and answer questions about all branches of science as well as math! This is a fast paced quiz game.

Wednesdays, beginning October 8, 2025 - December 17, 2025.

Space is limited to 75 participants.

Registration is now open for Chess Club

Chess Club is open to all grades and will be held on Mondays beginning October 6 - December 8, 2025

Limited to 30 students. Bring your ipad and meet in the Media Center.

Students will follow a pre-set workout plan and learn the basics of proper lifting technique.  

Open to 7th and 8th Graders, and any 6th graders that have already taken the last session, Beginning Weight Lifting.  Please wear closed toed shoes.

Group projects, speakers, trivia, activities on fundamental concepts of neuroscience, complexity of brain structuring, communication, gene - environment, and plasticity.

Do you want to challenge yourself, against others, to compete to go to state, nations, or a world competition?

Then these activities are for you.

One intramural fee of $25 will get you registered for one or both intramurals.

History Bowl is not available at this time.

Math Masters is open to the first 40, 6th graders that register by turning in an intramural form to the front office. All participants will take part in the placement testing and are welcome to continue to practice regardless of qualifying for a competition team.  The number of 5 person teams that will take part in the competition will depend on the number of participants and their math skills. 

The event includes an individual number facts/order of operations round, four individual problem-solving rounds and three group problem-solving rounds with team members cooperating over the solutions. The competition lasts approximately three to four hours, including short breaks.  Awards given at the competition include participation certificates for all members, individual place awards and team plaques. You can find more information here or by checking out the Math Masters website.

UpRoar E - Sports League (Season I) Is now open for registration

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays beginning October 7th in the Media Center.

Recommendations:  Console:  Nintendo Switch

Games:  Mario Kart, Splatoon 3, Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

Floorball is not available at this time.

Floorball is a non-contact indoor team sport similar to floor hockey.  It is played with a composite stick and a ball. 

Participation is limited to 16

Sticks, nets, and balls provided.  Participants should have gym shoes and athletic attire.

Spelling Bee is not available at this time.

This year, we will use the Scripps National Spelling Bee’s online testing platform to hold our Wayzata Central Middle School spelling bee via an online spelling test. 

• The first step to spelling bee participation for your child is registering for the online testing platform by visiting this site. 

• Should you need assistance, please read this document or watch this video tutorial that will walk you through the registration process.

• Once you have registered, your child will be assigned the appropriate test. Your child must complete the test before the given deadline. Tests can be taken on any device with a web browser, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones. Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge are our preferred browsers. We do not support Safari for desktop or Internet Explorer.

• One student from CMS, who receives the highest score, will be named our school champion and will move on to compete at the regional level. The regional spelling bee semifinals will be through online tests with the regional finals held at an in-person spelling bee event at St. Paul College on March 6th.

Coming Soon! Quiz Bowl participants will be determined by a mock Quiz Bowl, date to be determined.  

Quiz Bowl is a fast-paced buzzer competition in which teams of four compete to answer questions that cover academic subjects like literature and science as well as the broader world of popular culture and current events.

Math Counts is not available at this time.

MATHCOUNTS Competition is a national middle school coaching and competitive mathematics program that promotes mathematics achievement through a series of fun and engaging "bee" style contests. The program exists in all 50 states plus U.S. territories and the Department of Defense and State Department schools and is supported by the National Society of Professional Engineers at the state and local levels. Public, private, religious and home schools alike are eligible to participate, as long as students are in the sixth, seventh and/or eighth grade.

All students are eligible for a spot on the Central Middle School team. Each school is allowed to bring one team of 4 students that will compete on the team and individual rounds as well as six additional individuals that will compete solely in the individual rounds. The chapter competition takes place in February on a Saturday. A qualifying test may be administered. 

First and second place students and teams at the local level will compete at a state competition in March. The top four students at state will combine to create a Minnesota State team and will represent our state at the national competition in late April.

Please note that there is an additional $35 competition fee that is required. 

Soccer Club is not available at this time.

Soccer for all grades!  Bring cleats, shin guards, and a ball if you have them.
