MyWay
MyWay is Wayzata Public Schools' effort to ensure each and every one of our students is prepared to thrive today and excel tomorrow in an ever-changing global society.
The initiative puts digital learning devices (iPads) in the hands of students to increase student learning and engagement.
At its core, the overriding goal of MyWay is to complement our current work with another tool and approach to help us provide a world-class and personalized student learning experience.

iPad Care and Maintenance
Care
Case
A suitable case is required to protect the iPad, especially while the iPad is being transported.
Your iPad comes with a school issued case. The purpose of the case is to protect the iPad, especially while the iPad is being transported. When not in use, closing the iPad case will save battery life and protect the screen. The iPad must remain in the school issued protective case at all times or in student provided case that provides equal or better protection. No stickers or any other items should be attached to the iPad itself unless placed there by school staff.
Battery
The iPad should be fully charged, using the provided wall charger and brought to school ready to use each day. Fully charged iPad batteries will typically last 12-15 hours of use. Waiting to charge the iPad until the charge is low (less than 20% life or red indicator light) will extend the battery life. It is the student’s responsibility to charge the iPad at home and ensure it is ready for use in school each day. Failure to do so may result in the student’s inability to participate in classroom learning activities.
Screen
The iPad is an electronic device; handle it with care. Never throw a book bag that contains an iPad. Never place an iPad in a book bag that contains food, liquids, heavy, or sharp objects. While the iPad is scratch resistant, it is not scratch proof. Avoid using any sharp object(s) on the iPad. The iPad screen is glass and is vulnerable to cracking. Never place heavy objects on top of the iPad and never drop your iPad. Careful placement in your backpack is important.
iPads do not respond well to liquids. Avoid applying liquids to the iPad. The iPad can be cleaned with a soft lint-free cloth. Avoid getting moisture in the openings. Do not use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol, ammonia, or abrasives to clean the iPad. Use of unapproved cleaners may remove the protective film covering the face of the iPad.
Insurance & Repair
Wayzata Public Schools recognizes the need to protect the District’s investment in the iPads and to protect families from expenses associated with damages of the iPad. Parents may purchase iPad insurance through Consumer Priority Service or no insurance at all.
If the no insurance option is chosen, parent(s)/guardian(s) are responsible for all costs of repair or replacement.

Approved Apps
All approved apps will be identified on a published list and available in the Self Service app. To keep the list manageable and relevant, teachers will be asked to identify apps that are essential for their course. When identifying essential apps, the app must:
- support curriculum goals
- foster personalized learning
- is age-appropriate (including advertisements)
- adheres to the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) [Policy] [Regulations].
Search by app name or category on the "List of Approved Apps".

What is MyWay?
MyWay is the name of the long-term effort underway in the Wayzata Public Schools to make sure that each and every one of our over 10,000 students are prepared to thrive today and excel tomorrow in an ever-changing global society. As a part of MyWay, we commit to putting digital learning devices (iPads) in the hands of students. At its core, the overriding goal of MyWay is to provide a world-class and personalized student learning experience.
Why is MyWay important?
MyWay goes far beyond just giving students iPads...it is about putting the world in their hands. It's a learning initiative aimed at providing all students with personalized learning experiences that stimulate creativity and imagination. We want students to experience, connect and interact with the world in ways that traditional textbooks and curriculum alone can't provide.
Why was the iPad chosen for this program?
It was determined that the iPad is presently the tool with the greatest potential to meet the individual needs of students and provide a smooth integration into the district's technology environment. After considering the cost, limitations, available applications and portability, the iPad was chosen as the optimal device for our students.
What exactly will my student receive?
Each student will be issued a new 16GB iPad, WiFi only, with a district issued protective case. Students will be given the option to provide their own personal protective case and may purchase additional peripherals, such as a keyboard, if they so desire. All students will be issued a district protective case. Students will be expected to keep the iPad in the District issued protective case (or an equally protective case).
My student already has an iPad. Will he/she be able to use that one? (Grades 6-12)
Will my child be allowed to use other tablet devices than the iPad?
Will students take the iPads home or will they remain in the classroom?
Will students get to keep their iPads over the summer?
What is expected of students?
Each day, students are expected to bring their fully-charged iPad to school in working order. There will be some extra power sources available in some classrooms, but there will not be power outlets at every desk. Students are expected to manage their device in a way that minimizes the likelihood of damage, loss or theft.
How can students secure their personal information?
What if students forget to bring the iPad to school? (Grades 6-12)
What is the cost to families for the iPad?
What happens if an iPad is damaged, destroyed or stolen? (iPad Insurance)
If an iPad is damaged, destroyed or stolen, it will be the responsibility of the student's family to pay for its replacement or repair.
Wayzata Public Schools recognizes the need to protect the District's investment in the iPads and to protect families from expenses associated with damages of the iPad. Parents may purchase iPad insurance through CPS. If the no insurance option is chosen, parent(s)/guardian(s) are responsible for all costs of repair and/or replacement.
Insurance may be purchased from CPS.
Are there accessories I should purchase with the iPad?
Am I required to have Internet access at home for the iPad program?
No, Internet access in the home is not required. Students will be able to access free wireless service at many local businesses. Students will have the opportunity to obtain necessary documents and information on their iPads to use offline. There are programs available to parents/guardians for reduced cost home Internet access via these providers:
- Comcast Internet Essentials
- TIES
How will Internet access for my student be filtered on the iPad?
Will there be support for parents/guardians?
Is an iTunes account required? (Grades 6-12)
Do I have to buy any apps for the iPad?
Can students install their own apps? (Grades 6-12)
No, the district will provide approved apps through an in-house app store called Self Service. Self Service will be available on all student iPads and is where all school approved apps can be found and installed. Students can ask a teacher to submit an app for approval. Once that app is approved it will become available to students from within Self Service.
