 Minnesota State Speech Tournament - April 12 & 13

On Friday, April 12, and Saturday, April 13, Wayzata High School is proud to be hosting the Minnesota State Speech Tournament which will consume all of WHS. To accommodate this tournament, students in grades 9-12 will have a "virtual day" on Friday, April 12 and are NOT expected to report to school. Instead, students will engage in remote learning activities. Teachers will clearly communicate the class expectations for this day and will be accessible via email in the afternoon to respond to student questions. The expectation will be that your student completes their assigned class activities. If access to technology or an internet connection presents an issue for your student, please see your Social Worker or Associate Principal.

Donations of food items, skills and services are sometimes required. Volunteers make the difference. Get on the list by contacting Myrna Sitrin

Please note:  In the interest of safety and security, volunteers need to comply with the volunteer guidelines established by the district. By signing up to volunteer, you are stating that you have read and agree to the guidelines.

Around the District

Emergency School Closing
The superintendent may close school, delay the start of school or dismiss school early because of extreme weather or other emergency conditions. If schools are to be closed for the entire day, an announcement will be made as early as possible over WCCO 830 AM radio; WCCO-TV, Channel 4; KSTP-TV, Channel 5; KMSP-TV, Channel 9; and KARE- TV, Channel 11. Announcements will also be posted on the District’s website at wayzataschools.org and phone calls and email messages will be sent to all families using the district’s parent notification system.

Our school utilizes the SchoolMessenger system to deliver SMS text messages, straight to your mobile phone with important information. To participate in this free service, ensure that you have entered your cell phone number in the Skylert section of Skyward Family Access, then send a text message of "Y" or "Yes" to our district's short code number, 67587.

My Stop® App – Live Bus GPS Information
My Stop® is a web-based application available to all Wayzata Public School parents and students that lets them access live bus GPS information. Using a smartphone or tablet, parents and students can view the current location of buses on routes and the estimated time of arrival at their neighborhood bus stops. This simple tool gives families and students the ability to know approximately where the school bus is on its route. My Stop® displays the school bus’ approximate location on a map, as well as the estimated time of arrival (ETA) to a specific student’s bus stop. The school bus’ location is automatically updated every 1 to 2 minutes and the ETA is recalculated to accommodate any delays due to traffic while the bus is en route.

Preventing the Flu
Influenza, commonly called "the flu", is a contagious respiratory illness caused by the influenza virus, which infects the nose, throat, and lungs. Symptoms include fever (100º or above), headache, extreme tiredness, dry cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, and muscle aches lasting up to a week or longer. The best way to prevent this illness is by getting a flu vaccination. Additional tips are available on the Minnesota Department of Health website.

Students and staff members need to be without a fever for over 24 hours before returning to school. When contacting the school to report that your child is sick, please be specific including if the fever is 100º or greater and if your child has a cough or a sore throat. If you have questions about these guidelines, please call your school health office.
