Alternative Learning Program Department News

We have a new class offered in Alternative Program! Starting in Term 2 of the 2018-2019 academic year, the ALP began offering a course to juniors and seniors titled "Planning for Post Secondary Success."  During this single term elective, students explore the options available to them following graduation from Wayzata High School. Students focus on 4-year colleges and universities, 2-year community colleges, careers in the military, and careers in the technical and vocational fields.  After exploring each option, students develop plans unique to their individual needs and goals and begin the process of fulfilling the requirements of moving towards this next step. The culminating project for each student is the development of a portfolio that details the "Post Secondary Plan" that each has developed throughout the course of the term.  Finally, each student also participates in an ACT preparation program offered by Oddysseyware throughout the course of the term.

If you would like more information about the ALP, please feel free to contact us.

Volunteer Needs

Businesses Connecting With Teachers - Volunteers Needed

Wayzata High School is exploring the possibility of connecting teachers with employers in the metro area. The goal of this opportunity is to connect teachers with business leaders so they can better understand the needed skills employers are seeking in candidates and to enhance the teacher's ability to help make those connections and better prepare students for their future in the world of work. Please view the details and respond via email to Tina Christopherson if your company can help us provide this experience for teachers.

Join the general volunteer list; you will be notified throughout the year as needs arise. Don't have a lot of time? That's okay. Volunteering is not always limited to time during school hours. Donations of food items, skills and services are sometimes required. Volunteers make the difference. Get on the list by contacting Myrna Sitrin

Please note:  In the interest of safety and security, volunteers need to comply with the volunteer guidelines established by the district. By signing up to volunteer, you are stating that you have read and agree to the guidelines.
