Health Screening

Health Screening will take place on December 11-12 and we need volunteers. Please see if anything fits into your schedule. If your student wears corrective lenses, please be sure they have them at school during screening. If you have any questions, please contact Cindy Auer at Cynthia.Auer@wayzataschools.org.

Volunteers for Book Fair Needed

The PTA needs volunteers for the book fair next week. If they do not get enough volunteers, the fair will close during some shifts and class visits will be shifted or eliminated. Check SignUpGenius for needed times. Please contact bookfair@oakwoodpta.org with questions.

Reminder

Extended Vacations

If you are going on an extended vacation for more than 15 days, please fill out the Oakwood Travel Form. This automatically notifies the Oakwood Health Office of the absences. Once you have notified the health office, fill out the District Extended Vacation Form and email it to the Welcome Center at welcome@wayzataschools.org or fax to 763-745-5096. Per the Minnesota Department of Education enrollment guidelines, withdrawal after 15 consecutive days of absence triggers the close of the enrollment status record. If the extended vacation exceeds 15 school days, district-issued technology and Skyward Family Access may not be immediately available upon return.

Book Fair is Next Week

The book fair will be during the school day in our media center December 3-7 and during Family Service Night. Talking about books with friends and family makes a lasting impression on growing minds. Contact us at bookfair@oakwoodpta.org if you have questions.

Family Service Night

Join us Thursday, December 6, 6:00-8:00 p.m. for fun hands-on community service activities and more. Bring non-perishable foods to help fill the Interfaith Outreach food shelf. Each donation earns a raffle ticket for book fair prizes. Bring an old t-shirt (or three), if you want to learn how to make a reusable shopping bag. We need 3-4 station leaders/assistants, even  for just a portion of the evening.

Culture Quest – January 17

Consider sharing your cultural heritage, or about a country where you've lived or traveled by hosting a cultural booth at the event. Bring items to display. Or share your talents, hobbies or knowledge in small group activities to make this an interactive event. Some ideas include cultural games, crafts, dances, writing in another language. Contact Natalie with questions or to volunteer at culturequest@oakwoodpta.org.

Gregor Fams & Greenhouse Fndraiser - November 29 - December 2

Our winter fundraiser is through Gregor Farms & Greenhouse.  Get your winter decorations and give 15% back to Oakwood PTA from your pre-tax purchase.

November 2018 Legislative Action Committee (LAC) Update
At the November 14 meeting of the Wayzata Legislative Action Committee, senators and representatives-elect for districts representing Wayzata Public Schools were invited. Able to attend were Senator Warren Limmer, Senate District 34; Representative Jerry Hertaus House District 33A; and Representative-Elect Ginny Klevorn, House District 44A.

The LAC reviewed election results for districts representing the District (full election results can be found on the Minnesota Secretary of State website). The LAC will start meeting with legislators before the 2019 Legislative Session begins January 8 to build positive relationships with our officials.

The LAC reviewed and discussed the 2019 Legislative Platform draft, which is scheduled to be approved at the December 10 School Board Meeting. This platform will guide LAC advocacy at the Minnesota Capitol during the 2019 Legislative Session.

If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact Annie McDaniels or Sarah McLaren, Oakwood’s LAC representatives, or visit the District Committees webpage.
