Principal's Note

The temperatures are dropping and winter is here! We want to remind all parents to dress their students warmly with hats, mittens and warm winter jackets. When snow is on the ground, all students are required to wear snow pants and boots in order to play on the playground, otherwise they will stay on the blacktop during recess. If you need assistance with getting outerwear for your student, please contact our social worker, Jessica Bedford, at 763-745-5414.

Did You Know?

New Student Directories

Our new student directories were sent home this week with the oldest or only students in your family. This is our first year and next year we anticipate even more families adding their names to the directory. Please email Jessica Lasser, our PTO committee chairperson, if you have any questions.

Fun Facts about Golden Beets:

  • Beets are old! Beets were initially cultivated around 2,000 BCE in the Mediterranean.
  • The biggest beet was 156 pounds.
  • Beets are high in fiber, which helps keep you full.

We'll be trying Golden Beats at Gleason Lake Tuesday, December 4.

Volunteer Needs

PTO Social/Fundraising Committee Opportunity

The PTO is putting together a Social/Fundraising Committee for Parents Night Out. We are looking for two co-chairs and volunteers for subcommittees. Roles include finding a fun venue and creating invitations. Organizing subcommittees to help with decorations, food and small fundraising efforts. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to be involved but can't meet during the day. Most of the event coordination can be done by phone and email. Please email Laurie Hasko at laurie.hasko@gmail.com for more information.

Around the District

November 2018 Legislative Action Committee (LAC) Update
At the November 14 meeting of the Wayzata Legislative Action Committee, senators and representatives-elect for districts representing Wayzata Public Schools were invited. Able to attend were Senator Warren Limmer, Senate District 34; Representative Jerry Hertaus House District 33A; and Representative-Elect Ginny Klevorn, House District 44A.

The LAC reviewed election results for districts representing the District (full election results can be found on the Minnesota Secretary of State website). The LAC will start meeting with legislators before the 2019 Legislative Session begins January 8 to build positive relationships with our officials.

The LAC reviewed and discussed the 2019 Legislative Platform draft, which is scheduled to be approved at the December 10 School Board Meeting. This platform will guide LAC advocacy at the Minnesota Capitol during the 2019 Legislative Session.

If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact Esther Dale, Gleason Lake’s LAC representative, or visit the District Committees webpage.
