Principal's Note

Now that the weather has gotten colder and snow has arrived, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately.  We do go out in snow and even when the temps are below zero.  They should come to school with hats, coats, gloves, snow pants and boots.  Don't forget to put their names in all of their gear!

PTA News

Turkey Bingo - Friday, November 16

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Games will be from 6:30-8:00. There will be lots of fun prizes including bowling and a dinner, movie and a dinner, whole table winners, turkeys and more. This is a popular event, so get there early for a seat.

 

Culture Quest Coming January 17

Consider sharing your cultural heritage, or about a country where you've lived or traveled by hosting a cultural booth at the event. Bring items to display. Or share your talents, hobbies or knowledge in small group activities to make this an interactive event. Some ideas include cultural games, crafts, dances, writing in another language. Contact Natalie with questions or to volunteer at culturequest@oakwoodpta.org.

 

Order Spirit Wear

Head over to rambow.com to get a jump on holiday gifts. Remember, you can order both Wayzata and Oakwood items and have everything shipped directly to your home in time for the holidays. If you have any questions, please email Steph at spiritwear@oakwoodpta.org.

 

Reflections Art Contest

It's time to get out your paintbrushes, pens, cameras and musical instruments to submit your entry in the 50th Anniversary Reflections Art Contest! Categories include visual arts, literature, photography, music composition, film production and choreography. Students can enter once in all six categories. The deadline for entries is Friday, November 16. Entry forms are located in the office, library, music room, art room and Home Base. The theme for this year is, "Heroes Around Me". Final art should be handed in to the Oakwood office.

 

Matting Workshops

Students can stay after school in the art room to make final touches to artwork or have help framing/matting work to complete it.  The last workshop will be Wednesday, November 14 from 2:30-3:15 p.m.

 

Book Fair 

The book fair will be December 3-7 during the school day as well as during Family Service Night December 6. Spending this week talking about books with friends and family makes a lasting impression on growing minds. Volunteer for the book fair to show support – no experience is required. Email bookfair@oakwoodpta.org for more information. Did you know that the more types of reading materials there are in the home, the higher students are in reading proficiency, according to the Educational Testing Services.

 

Family Directory

Please sign up to be included in the Oakwood Family Directory.  It is a good way to be able to connect with other Oakwood Families. Use the join code Oakwood PTA. If you have questions, email Michelle Ugurlu at vicepresident@oakwoodpta.org.

 

Box Tops for Education

Oakwood participates in Box Tops for EducationSave your box tops and send them to school with your student to put into the bucket in the office.

Wayzata High School Theatre presents The Secret Garden at Wayzata High School in Auditorium 1. Performances Friday, November 9, 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, November 10, 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.; Thursday, November 15, 7:00 p.m.; Friday, November 16, 7:00 p.m.; Saturday November 17, 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance at whstheatre.com for adult $15.00, senior $12.00, student/staff $10.00.
