Note from Principal Keffeler

Hello Meadow Ridge Families,

Happy November! In the education world, the month seems to go quickly. On November 8 and 9, there is no school for students. Teachers will be participating in two days of professional development around the district. November 8 will be dedicated to learning strategies for conferencing with students about reading. On November 9, Meadow Ridge teachers will be learning more about how we can better reach students who have experienced trauma in their lives. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are gaining more attention around how they affect the brain, our reactions to stress, and how that can manifest in the classroom. Almost half of children in America have experienced one or more serious types of trauma. It's eye-opening research, and if you are interested in learning more, watch this 16 minute TED talk with Dr. Nadine Burke Harris.

November also brings colder weather, and probably some snow. Please send your child dressed for the weather, as we go outside for recess most days. Every year our lost and found is overflowing with coats, snow pants, hats, and single mittens. Please consider labeling all items, and checking in with your child every few days to see if they are missing a mitten or glove. If they are, put a note in their planner to check the lost and found. That will help your child build that responsibility muscle.

I hope to see many of you at Turkey Bingo tomorrow night!

Karen
