Sign up for a Kindergarten Meeting
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Prior to the start of the school year, we are asking our kindergarten students to participate in a short meeting with a kindergarten teacher. This opportunity gives us the time to connect with each child individually and better know students as they begin kindergarten.
Meeting Location: Kimberly Lane Elementary 17405 Old Rockford Road Plymouth, MN 55446
Please sign up for a time slot on Sign-Up Genius. We have select days available July 28 - August 4.
Frequently Asked Questions:
What will my child be doing? Each child will meet with a kindergarten teacher for about 15 minutes. Your child will identify letters and numbers, write their name and practice counting. The setting is relaxed and supportive. The activity is a survey of skills specifically designed for beginning kindergarteners.
Who will lead the meeting? A kindergarten teacher will meet with each child. However, your child may or may not have this teacher for their classroom teacher in the fall. You will find out your child's teacher via email on Monday, August 30th, at 4:00 p.m.
How will information be used? We are interested in discovering what students can already do so we may begin our instruction in ways that are responsive to your child. While your child meets with the kindergarten teacher, you will also fill out a survey to help your child's future teacher know more about them. No matter your child's skill level or learning preferences, we adapt our instruction to meet each child's current strengths and needs. Parts of the survey may be repeated through the kindergarten year to show growth, and additional support will be offered as needed.
Can I observe this meeting? It is typically easier for a child to concentrate if his or her parent/guardian is not present. Please wait in the building during your child's meeting. You will not receive an immediate report that day. Conferences are scheduled later in the year after we have spent more time in the classroom working with your student. During this conference we will share the progress your child has made on these skills and many others.
This survey is a small, but an important part of getting to know a student. We hope you will make every effort to have your child participate. If you have any questions please contact our school administrative assistant, Donna Roehl at 763-745-5600.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Lane Elementary Kindergarten Teachers
