Principal's Message

This coming December and January, students will be taking the NWEA-MAP test. This year, your student will be taking the test on their iPad. Your students needs to make sure the iPad is fully charged on testing days. If your student is absent or does not finish in the time frame we have blocked off, they will be able to finish the test on the makeup days.

  • Over the past two weeks we have been learning and studying about the Pre Civil War Era.

  • On Friday we will finish up with our Pre-Civil War Era with our Assessment on Unit 2. We will then be starting with the Civil War. We will be doing a mini project with the Civil War where students will be picking a topic and creating a website for their project. This project will expect students to stay on top of their project by following the requirements and timeline that is given to finish it.

What We've Been Working On

  • Students researched and planned a food lab with their kitchen group. Ingredients need to be brought to school by Monday, November 5.
  • We have been learning about MyPlate USDA food guidelines and how to plan balanced meals.
  • We also researched our favorite fast food restaurants online to find out how many calories and fat are in our favorite meals.

  • We are wrapping up our quarter together. We will take the Summative Food Unit Test on Monday, November 5. Students who did not do as well as they would like on the test may complete the study guide and re-take the test on Wednesday, November 7, which is our last day of FCS. I have enjoyed getting to know your children and hope to see them again in 8th grade FCS.

What We've Been Working On

  • We have started our stress unit and have learned what stress does to the body and how we all react differently (stress reactions) to different stressors. We also differentiated between types of stressors and learned that some are within our ability to control (foreseeable and avoidable) with preparation.

  • We finally met! We ate pizza and cookies and talked about the year so far. We also reviewed late homework and as a whole students are doing much better than last year.

Around the District

The District Legislative Action Committee (LAC) met October 10 with Jim Westrum, Wayzata Public Schools Executive Director of Business and Finance, as the guest speaker. All candidates for Minnesota House of Representatives seats in districts serving Wayzata Public Schools were invited. Mr. Westrum gave a brief overview of past accomplishments of LAC advocacy, an overview of public education finance in Minnesota and an update on the current financial position of Wayzata Public Schools. This year’s Legislative Platform is scheduled to be finalized at the November LAC meeting and approved at the December 10 School Board meeting. This Platform will guide LAC advocacy at the State Capitol during the 2019 Legislative Session which begins January 8.
