Equity in Wayzata Public Schools Dear WPS Families,
In 2011, the Wayzata Public Schools approved a new Strategic Road Map that included a mission, vision, core values and strategic directions. Since that time, it has been reviewed and renewed two times in 2015 and 2019. This document has served us well and continues to guide our work toward achieving excellence for each and every student.
Since early in 2020, the district has been developing important guiding principles that outline our commitment to equity. The culmination of this work resulted in the development of our Equity Commitment, which was unanimously approved by the Wayzata School Board at its meeting on Monday, April 12.
This commitment will strengthen the foundation of our district's work in the months and years to come. It is an extension of our Strategic Road Map with specific amplification of our core values. The guidance outlined in the commitment will help us embrace the productive discomfort that is essential to understanding that we all belong here and are critical to each other's success and well-being.
The opening statement of our district's Equity Commitment is: "Systemic racism and many inequities exist in our society. This is not a reflection of who we aspire to be in Wayzata Public Schools. It is essential that we address this to fulfill our mission for each and every member of our community."
Our commitment is:
We're all in on equity and look forward to working in partnership with you to build on the strengths we each bring so that together we are more than the sum of our parts. Here are some ways to learn more about our journey, our commitment and how you can get involved. Thank you for your support of our students and school district. It is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, Chace B. Anderson Superintendent |
