Booktalk DJs
If you've had a chance to walk the hallways in our school recently, chances are good that you may have seen students displaying the books they're reading outside their classrooms. That's because we're creating a culture of literacy where talking about the books we love is as natural as telling a friend about a good movie you've recently seen. Another way we're celebrating reading is through our new Booktalk DJ podcast series. Check out the inaugural episode

Veteran's Day
Our annual Veteran's Program will be on Wednesday, November 7. The assembly will begin at 9:00 a.m. Our PTA will be serving coffee to Veterans and their families starting at 8:30 a.m. If you or a family member are a Veteran or currently serving in the military please join us so we can express our respect and appreciation in person.

Student Art Exhibit
Be sure to check out the framed art in our entryway the next time you visit school. This month we're featuring the work of Zaira, a 4th grade artist from Mr. McAuliff's class, who creates anime by applying that style to recognizable characters. Zaira's exhibit includes several drawings from her sketchbook, an artist's statement, and some full color prints. Thanks to the Greenwood Art Department for shining the light on student creativity and special thanks to Mrs. Joselyn for curating this impressive collection for us to enjoy!

Treats for Troops
Our 5th grade Kids In Community Kare & Service (KICKS) crew is leading a school-wide service project to support our troops. Check out their short podcast to see how you can help.

Thanks for your support,

Brad Gustafson, Principal

Did You Know?

Treats for Troops

The 5th grade KICKS team will collect candy for Treats for Troops before school on November 1-2 and November 5 in the front hallway. Please have your student(s) bring any donations in a bag. The candy will be weighed, packaged and shipped to our troops around the world.

Attendance
If your child is going to be absent or tardy, please call the Greenwood Health/Attendance Office before 8:00 a.m. at 763-745-5515. If we do not hear from you, the absence will be unexcused.

Reminders

Students not at school on picture day or that wish to retake their picture can do so on Tuesday, October 30. To have a picture retaken, students and staff are asked to return their original package to the photographer. This helps ensure that the correct package is printed for retakes. Picture packets are coming home this week. Please check your child's backpack.

Students are invited to participate in Greenwood's Cardboard Challenge on Saturday, November 3 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Contestants will design and build an arcade or carnival-type game from cardboard, recycled materials, and their imaginations. Students should complete the registration form and return it to the office by November 1. Contact Erin Bloom at Erin.Bloom@wayzataschools.org with questions.

Students can win a pack of bingo cards for Turkey Bingo on November 16. Place 25 clipped Box Tops for Education labels in a baggie with your child's name and teacher. Drop your baggie(s) in the rolling file in the school entry.  One winner will be chosen each week through October 26.

Former Greenwood students May and Neev Zeroni are offering free tutoring to kindergarten through 5th grade students. May and Neev are initiating this youth project to give back to the community. Tutoring will be held Sundays from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the Plymouth Library. This program is organized and led by volunteers and is not a Wayzata Public Schools activity.

Square 1 Art

The PTA is partnering with Square 1 Art to celebrate our student's artistic accomplishments and enrich the art experience at Greenwood and Wayzata's new elementary school to open next fall.  In November, your child will bring home a catalog featuring their artwork. You will be able to purchase gifts or order items from the catalog as keepsakes. All students will receive a sheet of stickers imprinted with their artwork for free. Watch for more details about the campaign and order deadlines.
