Attendance Guidelines
Absences For any unexcused attendance an automated call will go out to parents/guardians. All attendance records can be seen in Skyward Family Access and verified absences can be cleared up through an attendance request or by calling the Attendance Line at 763-745-6055. More information and directions on submitting an absence online.
Required Quarantine Academics There is a process in place to help students keep up with their studies while on quarantine. This is approved through the Health Office and set up for your student if needed. This accommodation is not intended for vacations, personal schedule needs, or any non related Covid reason. If you choose to have your student stay home, they will be marked absent and may refer to their teacher's Canvas page to stay current.
Early Dismissal If your student needs to be picked up before the school day has ended, please notify the attendance office through Skyward, or call 763-745-6055. Then have your student pick up blue dismissal pass in the front office on their way into school. If another adult other than who is listed on Skyward is picking up your student, please let us know. As always, parents are expected to come into the front office to sign them out.
Reminders COVID-19-Safe Outdoor Library
We're so amazed and grateful for our distance choice team readers at CMS! You had come out almost every week, rain or shine, to hang out at school and read new books. Many of you provided valuable feedback as well! Thank you for being a part of something unique and cool! All CMS media center books are set to be due on April 30th, 2021. Please take this early due date as an opportunity to locate missing books and return them throughout May at your convenience. We accept returns at the main entrances as well as in the media center itself. Outdoor library service will end on Friday, April 30th.
As always, please ask if you have any questions. we'll do whatever we can to keep you reading! Just email carla.dogan@wayzataschools.org
PTA News PTA The next PTA meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2021.
Although this has been an unusual year, we are looking for new people to step up and take on leadership roles on the PTA Board next year. Multiple people will be leaving CMS. Please consider getting involved. If you have any questions or want more information, please reach out to Christina Bulisco at christinabulisco@gmail.com. Elections will occur in the spring.
PTA Membership Please consider joining and contributing to the PTA. This is a great way to be updated on what is happening at CMS. Membership does not commit you to volunteering but we are always in need of help!

Volunteer Needs
Around the District COVID-19 Variant Testing Due to the rise in COVID-19 variant cases in the state, the Minnesota Department of Health encourages the following:
Thank a Teacher this holiday season with a bundt cake! This school year has been unusual to say the least! Our teachers and staff have been a consistent, welcoming presence in our students' lives this year more than ever. Show your support for all they have done with a donation to the Wayzata Education Fund. Each donation made in honor of a teacher or staff until June 1 will include a special certificate of thanks from you, and every donation of $25 or more will come with a bundlet from Nothing Bundt Cakes. Whether they’ve helped make a difference in person or virtually, show your appreciation by participating in our Thank a Teacher program.Updated MSHSL Mask Policy The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has established requirements for the wearing of masks/face coverings. Masks/face coverings are not required for student-athletes in outdoor contests and practices when they are actively engaged in competition and/or practice. Masks/face coverings are required to be worn when outdoor sports participants are not actively practicing or competing and cannot maintain social distancing.

Parenting with Vision: “The Danger of a Single Story” is a powerful Ted Talk given by award-winning author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. In the Ted Talk, Adichie shares stories of the stereotypes she held about others, and ones Americans held about her. Wayzata parents Denise Silva and Kristen Spargo invite fellow parents to join them to view Aichie’s Ted Talk on Zoom, reflect on the stories she shares and discuss them together.
