Dear Wayzata High Students and Parents/Guardians,
As we welcome students back from spring break and start a new term, I am writing today in pure disbelief and sadness as we face yet another unnecessary loss of life in the shooting death of Daunte Wright and the resulting events that are now unfolding nearby. As a follow-up to Superintendent Anderson's letter, please know it is our top priority to provide a supportive environment so all students feel safe.
We are prepared to lead these challenging situations and difficult conversations with students. Space is available and staff will be on hand this week in the College and Career Center for students to gather and process as needed. For our distance learners at home, we have established the following Zoom Meeting Room during the 3rd block that can be accessed through their student email account.
You may also schedule an appointment with a member of your Student Support Team via Acuity. Please reach out if you, your student or family needs additional support today or in the future. Additional resources for families can be found on our school district website: Race and Racism Resources for Family Conversations.
We care deeply about the health, safety and well-being of all our students and staff. Our strength as a school community comes from the diversity of all ideas, beliefs, and backgrounds and our collective ability to navigate challenging times together as a community. As I said before, what affects one aspect of our school community affects us all; we may be a school of 3,700 students and 400 staff, but we are a school community of one.
I'm always here to listen to your thoughts and concerns as well. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly at Scott.Gengler@wayzataschools.org.
Sincerely,
Scott Gengler Principal
