Dear Wayzata High School Parents/Guardians,
As we approach a year of enduring COVID-19, we recognize the evolving impact the pandemic has had on all of us in a variety of ways. One way the pandemic has universally impacted all of us has been the effect of isolation and stress on our mental health. In order to better understand how our youth are managing the pandemic, specifically as it relates to their social emotional well-being and ability to cope with the ever-changing times, we are preparing to launch a survey of all WHS students called the 2021 WHS COVID Wellness Survey.
Over the course of the last eight years, we have collaborated with Partners in Prevention on numerous projects as it relates to substance use prevention and mental health promotion. They have been champions in our collective effort to promote healthy decision making around substance use and have led the charge across the state in the response to the vaping epidemic. Partners in Prevention is a local coalition serving the Wayzata Public Schools' community and is federally funded through the Drug Free Communities Grant. Part of the compliance for that grant is to collect data on youth substance use every two years in order to continually outline evidence-based strategies to address our local conditions. This survey will meet their data collection requirement and will allow them to strategize intentionally around how to support the well-being of our youth.
The plan is for WHS staff to administer the survey on Monday, March 22 during study hall. The survey is anonymous and voluntary. If you would like to review the survey, please click here. There will be no identifying information collected. Any student who wishes not to participate can do so and there are no consequences for declining to participate. Teachers will let students know that they have this option before the survey is administered.
We thank you in advance for your support as we work together to provide the best possible support for our community during this time.
