Wayzata High School
Senior Commencement Speech Guidelines

Dear Class of 2021,

We will have two Class of 2021 Graduates speak at our Wayzata High School Class of 2021 Commencement. One speaker will be recommended by the students in your senior class, and the second speaker will be recommended by the Wayzata High School faculty.

Speeches should be 3-5 minutes long. Graduates who are interested in speaking must:

  1. Enlist the help of a Wayzata High School staff member who will act as a mentor.
  2. Prepare the typed speech as a Google document and share it with both Deb Lange, Debra.Lange@wayzataschools.org, and your mentor so they can approve it. Be sure to give Deb Lange editing permission so it can be posted in a public folder. This document should be shared no later than 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31.

Speeches will be available online for voting April 19 - 30.

Visit the WHS Graduation information webpage to vote. This website will not be accessible for voting until voting opens.

Selected speakers will be notified by Friday, May 14. Speakers will also be notified of a date/time (TBD) when/where they will rehearse their speech with Principal Gengler.

Your commencement ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Mariucci Arena on the University of Minnesota campus. If we need to move to an alternate plan due to COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, we will plan for an outdoor ceremony on June 5 at the high school.

Contact Ms. Lange if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Wayzata High School
