Dear Wayzata Transition Families,
In light of the updated guidance provided by the Governor last week, we are writing to confirm our plan to bring Wayzata Transition students, who are currently in the hybrid model, back to school for full in-person learning starting on Monday, March 8.
Important Dates and Information
- Monday, March 1 & Friday, March 5—There will be no school for Wayzata Transition students to prepare for students' full return to school. These two planning days are required by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and support our staff in shifting to the new learning model.
- Monday, March 8—Students currently in the hybrid learning model will return to in-person learning, five days a week on Monday, March 8.
- New School Hours—Wayzata Transition's new hours will be 8 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
- Lunch Options—We will be offering three lunch options: hot lunch, cold lunch (sandwich of the day or salad) or a peanut butter sandwich. Your student's case manager will be following up with each student/family with their lunch option. We will be having lunch at 11:30 a.m. - noon each day.
- WHS Classroom—We will continue to access the same classroom at the high school.
- Work Experience and Community Participation—We will continue to have work experience in-house until we can get into the community. If your student is already working, they will continue working in the community. Your student's case manager will inform you if/when changes happen.
- Transportation—Your student's case manager has completed the necessary paperwork for transportation. You will be receiving an email with the route information from our transportation office no later than March 5. If you have any questions, please contact Janea Mitchell at 763-745-5033.
In-Person Learning Model Safety Protocols
In order to return to a full in-person learning model, Wayzata Transition students must:
- Complete at-home health checks and make the responsible decision to stay home when experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
- Wear a mask throughout the entire school day.
- Maintain MDH/MDE social distancing requirements in effect for in-person learning.
- Practice frequent hand washing and use of hand sanitizer at one of many designated locations throughout the school.
- MDE strongly recommends that students and families that are learning in-person be tested for COVID-19 every two weeks. There are many locations providing free COVID-19 testing.
If you have additional questions, please reach out to your student's case manager for more information. We greatly appreciate your patience over the past year as we have been working hard to provide the best possible learning experience for your student. Thank you for your trust and understanding as we continue to navigate the challenges of a global pandemic.
Be well,
Joanne Karch
