Principal's Note Dear Families,
I hope all families had an enjoyable break and look forward to a brighter new year! As we prepare for our return to school, I want to encourage our Oakwood community to continue to do our part in ensuring a safe return to in person learning. It is very important that we all remain vigilant and follow the guidelines from the Minnesota Department of Health to help keep us all safe and healthy. The safety of our staff and students remain the top priority moving forward and we can only do this with your help. Thank you for your commitment to help ensure a safe return to school, starting on January 19 for grades K-2 and February 1 for grades 3-5.
The following practices will be implemented when returning.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me with any questions. Again, thank you so much for your support as we work through this transition process.
Sincerely, Sarabeth deNeui

Family Service Night Oakwood has a long-standing tradition of giving back to the local community during the month of December through Family Service Night. While we are unable to gather for an in-person event this year, we can still do our part! Below are some resources to help you and your family explore ways to give back this holiday season (many of which can be done from the comfort of your own home)!
To find out what our local community needs are and explore how you can help visit the Westside Communities in Action (WCIA) website. This organization was founded 9 years ago by former and current Oakwood moms who wanted to make it easier to "engage in community efforts and offer help to those in need."
The WCIA website has a wealth of information about local community needs and related activities. In addition, they offer several ideas for craft projects that can be completed at home and donated (some of which you've seen at recent Family Service Nights)!
While we've worked with a variety of partners over the last 10+ years, recent partners who are experiencing higher than typical demand due to COVID-19 include Interfaith Outreach, PRISM, Home Free Shelter, Wayzata-Plymouth Meals on Wheels, and Children's Hospitals of MN. Find ways to serve through the WCIA website or by visiting their respective websites.
Let's honor this awesome tradition by finding and sharing unique ways to serve others this month! And, if you do volunteer, complete a kindness craft, or find another creative way to give this month, please share it with us on Facebook! Post your pictures, stories, and ideas to our Facebook PTA Page.
PTA Meetings Dates Please mark your calendars for the upcoming PTA meetings. These will take place on Zoom from 7:45-9:00 a.m. (links will be posted the Thursday before the meeting here in the newsletter and on Facebook at Oakwood PTA). We had excellent turnout in October and are looking forward to seeing more of you for the November meeting!
Oakwood Family Directory All Oakwood families need to login or create an account and input family information to be included in the directory, even if you have done so last school year (your info will not be visible until you do so). You will not be able to access friends in the directory without doing this! We are looking forward to getting this directory up and running to stay connected to friends! Any questions can be directed to Michelle Ugurlu, Vice President Oakwood PTA, at vicepresident@oakwoodpta.org.
Submit Your Box Tops! Box Tops makes it easy to earn. No more clipping. No more dropping Box Tops in the Oakwood bucket. All you need is your phone. Download the Box Tops app, Shop as you normally would, and scan your store receipt. The app will automatically find participating products and credit Oakwood's Box Tops earnings. Twice a year, Oakwood will receive a check! It's that easy!
