Congratulations, Central Middle School!

We are pleased to announce that Central Middle School has been named a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education! This award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content.


"We recognize and honor your important work in preparing students for successful careers and meaningful lives," said U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos to the honorees. "Congratulations on your students' accomplishments and for your extraordinary commitment to meeting their unique needs."

 

Representatives from CMS and the other National Blue Ribbon schools will be honored at a reception in Washington, D.C. November 7-8.

Parent Teacher Conferences October 23, 25, and 30

Sign up will be available in Skyward Family Access on October 8. More information will be provided in an email that will be sent on October 8.

  • Math League began October 1.  Wait list now available.
  • Chess and Strategic Games will begin on October 3. Limited space available.
  • Bullet Journal Club begins October 8.

Registration forms are available in the front office. Please only register for activities that are open for registration.

 

Events
6th Grade Track & Field, Track meet on October 9 at 4:30 p.m. on the CMS track. Chairs and blankets encouraged for spectators.

 

Athletics

Girls' 7-8th grade basketball and Boys' 6-8th grade wrestling are open for registration through EPay. Visit the Activities and Athletics page for more information. First practice is October 29.

 

Reminders

From the Health Office

Cold and flu season are approaching.  Please encourage your child to practice thorough hand washing and have their mouths covered when coughing or sneezing to  protect themselves and others.  If your student is ill, please keep them home and report their absence.  We ask that students  return to school when they have been fever free with no vomiting for 24 hours.

 

Attendance

Attendance and early dismissals can now be entered in Skyward Family Access. As in the past, you may still send a note with your student to turn in to the front office in the morning, or call the attendance line at 763-745-6055.

 

Box Tops for Education

Box Tops for Education is a school earnings program that helps schools to buy the things they need. Box Tops are worth 10¢ each and they are found on hundreds of products. Please cut out your Box Tops and check expiration dates. Our next submission date is the end of October. There is a Box Top box in the Front Office.

We know you shop at Amazon.  Please log into your account via smile.amazon.com and choose "PTA Minnesota Congress Wayzata Central Middle School"  as your supporting charity, and 0.5% will be automatically donated to us.

Next PTA Meeting

Please join us for our next PTA Meeting, Tuesday, October 9 at 11:30 a.m. in room A406.  Our guest speaker will be Chace Anderson, Superintendent of Wayzata Public Schools. 

Scholastic Book Fair

Please plan to shop the Scholastic Book Fair October 22-25. The fair will be open during the school day as well as Tuesday and Thursday night during conferences. All proceeds from our fair go directly back to CMS in the form of books for classrooms, the media center and directly to students. It's a win-win for us all!

  • Monday – 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday – 8:45 a.m. to 9 p.m. (conference evening)
  • Wednesday – 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m
  • Thursday – 8:45 a.m. to 9 p.m. (conference evening)

If you are not able to make it into the fair, shop our online fair anytime from October 5-25. All purchases will be delivered to CMS free of charge and will be distributed to your student to bring home. If your purchase contains a gift for your student, you can choose to have your books delivered to CMS and you will be contacted when they arrive for pick up. 

 

 

Wayzata Gear for Holiday Gifts

The online Wayzata Spirit Wear store will reopen October 15-November 8.  Gear will be shipped directly to home the first week of December.  Wayzata gear makes the perfect holiday gift!

 

Take-a-Break Tuesday Restaurant Night

Take a break from cooking and support the PTA with our first restaurant night of the year at Chipotle! This event will be held Tuesday, October 9 from 4-8 p.m. Bring in the Chipotle Flyer

or show it on your smartphone and 33% of the proceeds will be donated to CMS PTA.

 

 

Heggies Pizza Order Pick Up

The CMS Fall Fundraiser pick up Thursday, October 11. All Heggies Pizza orders must be picked up in the CMS back parking lot between 4:00-6:00 p.m. If you are unable to pick up your items, please send someone for you. All pizzas not picked up will be donated to a local charity.

 

Volunteer Needs

PTA provides meals for 80 teachers during conferences October 23, 25 and 30 and donations are  needed. Please bring food items before 4 p.m. on the day you sign-up, and provide an ingredient list for teachers with allergies. Please contact Kira Engler at Kiraengler@gmail.com with questions.

 

Open Board Positions

The PTA has several open Board opportunities. If you are able to volunteer, please contact Suzanne Hoagland at smhoagland@mac.com.

  • Vice-President: Work with other board members to support the mission of the PTA.  Assist the President in oversight of programs and committees.
  • PTA Treasurer In-Training: Interested in being next year's PTA Treasurer? Work with our veteran treasurer this year to learn the ropes.
  • Events Concessions Chair: Plan and organize both volunteer and donations for treats to sell at 2 special events, including Movie Night. Events typically happen in winter and spring.
