Dear WPS Parent/Guardian,
As you know Wayzata Public Schools is currently in a distance learning model due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases locally and across the state. Our hope is to get students back into our schools as soon as we can when the situation with the virus improves.
We need your help to continue our planning for semester 2, which starts on February 1, 2021. As described this fall, families have the option to have their student either stay in the learning model that was selected at the beginning of the year (hybrid/in-person or distance choice) or make a switch for semester 2.
Please fill out a change form only if you want to switch your child's learning model selection.
If you chose hybrid at the beginning of the year and want your child to be able to return to hybrid or in-person learning when it is possible, you should not fill out and submit a copy of this form. We will roll your semester 1 selection into semester 2.
If you chose distance choice at the beginning of the year and want your child to remain in distance choice for the remainder of the school year, you should not fill out and submit a copy of this form. We will roll your semester 1 selection into semester 2.
If you decide to change your selection, here are some things to consider:
Important Considerations:
- This is a semester-long commitment (February 1 - June 10). It is extremely unlikely that you will be able to change your learning model selection again later in the school year.
- If you select a change, it is unlikely that your student will have the same teacher(s) they had during the first semester and it is possible to have classmates and/or a teacher from another school.
- In alignment with the newest guidance from the Minnesota Department of Education, requests from families to move between learning models outside of this request process may be denied for reasons other than a documented health issue.
- If a significant number of families choose to change from their current learning model, this may impact teaching assignments across all learning models.
Parents/guardians should submit a copy of this form for each child that a semester 2 learning model change is requested, including:
- Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE),
- Kindergarten through grade 8, or
- Wayzata Transition.
This form should not be filled out for children in the following programs:
- Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE),
- Early Learning School Preschool General Education students,
- Full-Day Preschool at the elementary schools (formerly Bright Start), or
- Wayzata High School students.
Again, please fill out a change form only if you want to switch your child's learning model selection. If you want to retain your learning model selection from the beginning of the year, no further action is required. All requests to change learning models for semester 2 must be received no later than Monday, December 14 at 8 a.m. If you have any questions, please email the Welcome Center.
