Dear Wayzata High School Students and Parents/Guardians,
In light of the rising numbers in COVID-19 cases and the new restrictions being implemented by Governor Walz as part of a statewide four-week pause, Wayzata High School will begin to scale back some of our in-person classes and will pivot to a predominantly distance model of learning beginning on Monday, November 30.
Students currently enrolled in hybrid courses will receive communication from their teachers regarding specific adjustments that will need to be made to ensure a successful transition and the continued access to resources within the building.
Special Education, English Learners, and other support services will also pivot to a more distance learning model. Jody Remsing, Director of Special Services, will provide further information, as will the case managers of students on Individual Education Plans.
Monday, November 23 and Tuesday, November 24, will be used to allow teachers to effectively make this transition. Hybrid teachers will reach out to their students and families by this Friday, November 20, to communicate the learning plan for next week. There will be no classes scheduled on these days for students receiving EL or Special Education services.
This transition will not impact courses already being delivered in a distance learning model. Term 2 distance courses will continue to operate as scheduled for all high school students on November 23 and 24.
We will continue to monitor and evaluate our situation closely, and we will scale up our in-person experiences when it is safe to do so.
Finally, I regret to inform you that our high school fall sports season will end at midnight on Friday, November 20. The high school winter athletic season is paused for four weeks. Additional information will be forthcoming and communicated separately to our winter athletes and families in the coming days.
I understand this is not the news any of us want to hear, so I'll say it again, thank you for your support and resilience as we continue to work together to help all our students navigate these changes successfully.
Stay well,
Scott Gengler Principal
