Principal's Note Hello Oakwood Families,
Our elementary schools are switching to distance learning starting on Monday, November 30 due to the rising cases of COVID-19. As was previously communicated to all WPS families, there will be no school for K-8 students on November 23 and 24 so that staff have necessary planning time to help make the transition to distance learning as smooth as possible.
This communication is intended to provide you with general information about what the shift means for your student and family. You will receive specific schedule and lesson information from your child's teacher via the Week-at-a-Glance.
Students currently enrolled in the Hybrid Option: In-person instruction previously delivered in the Hybrid model will now be provided synchronously (live) in Distance Learning classrooms. A/B groups will be maintained to support a positive transition for students and staff. Students currently enrolled in the Distance Choice Option: This will not significantly impact the learning experience that you currently have. A/B groups will be maintained. Students currently enrolled in Special Education and English Learner programs: Teachers in these areas will reach out directly to students and families to describe any changes in service delivery.
In an effort to increase synchronous (live) learning opportunities, the following will be provided live to all students (combining A/B cohorts) on a daily basis, Monday-Thursday:
In most instances, these four combined synchronous (live) activities will be completed in one morning and one afternoon block of time. In addition, specialist instruction will be delivered synchronously (live) for all students. Friday schedules and activities will remain consistent. We will be communicating information about materials pick-up schedules.
Thank you for your continued partnership as we continue to do all we can to provide your student with a meaningful learning experience. I welcome your questions and feedback, and are always here to help in any way that I can.
Best, Sarabeth deNeui

PTA Reflections Calling all artists! Does your student enjoy making art, music and dance or have an interest in writing, producing films and taking photos? Then join us and have fun unleashing your inner artist with the PTA Reflections! This year's theme, "I Matter Because...," calls for your student's own unique interpretation through the arts. PTA Reflections is an art contest open to all PreK through 5th grade students that love art and want to create original works of art in one or more of the following categories: Dance Choreography, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Film Production and Visual Arts. Your student can submit art in all six categories. Download and fill out the entry form. Return it with your final art submission by the program deadline on Friday, November 20. One entry form must be completed for each art submission and signed by a parent. We will be handling PTA Reflections remotely this year so there are no scheduled art workshops after school. Let's have fun making art!
Oakwood Family Directory As a reminder, all Oakwood families need to login or create an account and input family information to be included in the directory, even if you have done so last school year (your info will not be visible until you do so). You will not be able to access friends in the directory without doing this! We are looking forward to getting this directory up and running to stay connected to friends! Any questions can be directed to Michelle Ugurlu, Vice President Oakwood PTA, at vicepresident@oakwoodpta.org.
