Dear Wayzata High School Families,
Election Day has arrived. Our students have been navigating politics, candidates, and various social issues for months. Part of the "high school experience" is to help students understand how to think critically on these issues and to develop empathy towards others who may have very different perspectives from their own. Oftentimes, social media is the medium from which our students engage in such topics, including news reports, political opinions/agendas, and the like. As you might imagine, regardless of the results from the 2020 election, emotions may run high among our students and within our school community. Now is an opportune time to talk with your student about how this may play-out in their social media. Below are some talking points and tips you can use with your student regarding social media.
