Note from the Principal I want to extend a sincere thank you for all of the parents who were able to attend their virtual zoom conference(s) and connect with the teaching staff that supports their student(s). I am grateful for the continuous support and partnership that is present during these challenging times. Have a safe and fun MEA break.
Did You Know? Gleason Lake Fun Run This is the time to make a pledge to our most important fundraiser of the year if you haven't already. Send a check or make a donation on PledgeStar. Our Fun Run will take place on October 28 for Cohort A and October 29 for Cohort B. Distance Choice students will also be participating in this event virtually during their specialist times on October 28 or October 29. PTO will be sponsoring some live prize drawings for both individual students and top classes. Please contact Joy Szarke if you have any questions.
Distance Choice Learners begin seeing Specialists on October 21 The Gleason Lake Specialists are excited to see our Distance Choice Students once again. Beginning October 21, we will host live Zoom Instruction on our scheduled days with your class. Please refer to your classroom teacher's Week-at-a-Glance for our Digital Day Schedule. Zoom Class will begin 5 minutes after the originally scheduled class time begins as we will be running directly from live instruction at Gleason Lake to set-up the meeting digitally from our classrooms/office space. Please join us with your classroom teacher's daily Zoom link.
Dress for Outdoor Recess We want to remind our Hybrid Learning students to dress warmly for going outdoor for recess. We will go outside unless the wind chill is colder than -15º. We expect all students to wear snow pants, boots, hat, mittens and a warm jacket as we start to see the snow fly and temperatures drop.
Distance Choice Materials Pickup on October 23 The Distance Choice families will have another pick-up on Friday, October 23, from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Please note that library book checkout will only be available between 11:30-1:30. A library book return box will set out for the entire time. For families not able to come, bags will continue to be available on a table in our entry way.
Reminders No School Friday, October 23 for Elementary Planning Day Friday, October 23 will be a no school day for kindergarten through grade 5 students as elementary staff will be participating in a district-wide planning day. There will be no morning meetings or distance learning work assigned for this day. Wayzata Kids childcare will continue to be available to tier 1 critical workers.
Attendance Required Monday through Friday Zoom morning meetings are required when it is a distance day for your child. This is how your child's teacher is taking attendance. Your child will be counted absent if the teacher does not see them on Zoom during morning meetings, and you will get an automated message if you didn't enter an absence on Skyward Family Access. If you call after the message, your child will be counted tardy. If your child is not able to engage in learning, please mark them "absent" in Skyward Family Access. After logging in to Skyward, select "Attendance".
Biker and Walker Form To allow your student to be able to ride or walk to school, you will need to fill out a permission slip and turn it into the office. You can also take a photo of it and email it to Karen.Arkesteyn@wayzataschools.org.
Picture Day Rescheduled for February 3 and 4 We have rescheduled Picture Day for February 3 and 4. Please make a note in your calendar.
Our Support Team is Here for You If you have any questions or concerns, or feel like your child is having difficulty with the adjustment to the new school year, please reach out to one of us on our student support team.
