Physical Education Department Welcome In this day and age of Zoom calls, social distancing, and continued uncertainty, it has become more apparent than ever that an emphasis on wellness should be a major focus in today's modern world. We know that building a healthy immune system is the number one strategy in protecting oneself, not only from the COVID-19 virus, but from all other health challenges that we will face in life. Being active, along with sleep and nutrition, are the three foundational principles in creating a healthy lifestyle. Understanding the mind-body connection is also important, knowing that all our students are coming to us with a wide range of attitudes towards fitness. In the upcoming weeks we will explore the many facets of exercise. They include cardiovascular exercise, strengthening the muscular system, introducing flexibility through yoga practices, and other ancillary movement strategies. In addition to looking at the physiological systems, we introduce strategies that bring awareness to physical activity such as goal setting, mindfulness, and the need for healthy social interactions. Although distance learning presents challenges to us and our students, we as a PE staff continue to adapt to the many challenges that are facing our school and community. As Michael Jordan is attributed to saying, "Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it." Happy fun run from us all!
If you'd like more information on how your student can get involved in our Physical Education courses, email Kris Jones.
