Note from Mr. Williams Dear Sunset Hill Families,
I want to thank you for the collaborative effort we have made to start off the school year so positively. We have all had to make many changes as to how we do things this school year, and I am happy to share that we have gotten off to a good start. Please remember that, with both hybrid and distance choice models, there will inevitably be some technical problems that could impact things. I have noticed that sometimes those issues can appear on either the school side or on your side at home. Either way, communication with us will be extremely important as we are committed to helping in any way that we can. Please review carefully the contents of this eFolder as there are several reminders and pieces of information that will be pertinent to both hybrid and distance choice learning families.
Warmly,
Ross Williams
Parking Lot Families that are dropping off in the morning, please remember that your child will need to exit your vehicle quickly and access door 2. For safety reasons, your child should exit the car from from the passenger rear side. Starting next week, please do not get our of your vehicle as this slows our line process tremendously. We are continuing to ask that you move as far forward as you are directed in line as well. These two variables keep things moving smoothly. Thank you, in advance, for understanding this and supporting us and other families in this process.
FAST Pass After two days, everyone involved has gotten very good with understanding the efficiency and process required for this to be done smoothly. Please be sure that you have your number in the front passenger side window or windshield so that it can be seen by staff. You can also continue to help your child by making sure they know their number, or that it is continually showing on their backpack or belongings. This partnership speeds up the internal process within the building. We also do not release students from their classrooms until approximately 3 p.m. and students will likely not be exiting the building until 3:05 p.m.
Lastly, please remember that your pick up times will occur between 3:05 and 3:15 p.m. We can't allow for late arrivals as we do not have staff to supervise students after the times listed. Thank you for planning ahead and making those adjustments you need to, even when winter arrives.
Technology If you are having issues with connectivity and technology on your distance days, please take a look and see if there is a solution that helps you. If you do not find a solution, please submit a helpdesk ticket. Please feel free to connect with your student's classroom teacher, or any of our office support team mentioned below, if needed.
Office Support Team Our office support team is always ready to help, should you need it. This team includes:

It is with great pleasure and anticipation that we once again create our school calendar. This year, due to our current climate, we will be launching an interactive printable digital calendar, allowing us the flexibility to make updates as we go.
The calendar will house virtual events, community sponsors and offers from local businesses. Marketing in this exclusive calendar provides local businesses the opportunity to not only give back, but to build business in their own community.
The rates have been generously adjusted for this year to allow for even more community development and growth. If you or anyone you know would like to market in the new digital Sunset Hill Elementary 2020-2021 calendar or all-school directory, please email Jodi Rankin at jodi@fun2raise.com or you may reach her directly at 952-641-7100 x101. Fun2Raise will be able to design your ads at no charge and help create a message that will generate a response for your business.

Around the District How to Access Your Child's Culinary PIN Stay Home When Ill and Be Prepared to Quarantine It is important to be prepared as we begin the new school year in the midst of a pandemic. Our new reality will require students, families and staff to check daily for symptoms and stay home if you are ill. If you or someone in your family is ill, please reference the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) Decision Tree document to learn what your next steps should be. Report any student absences into Skyward Family Access, specifying if the absence is COVID-19 related. Our school nurses will follow up with any COVID-19 related cases. If you are tested for COVID-19, even if you feel well, it is important that you remain home and away from others until you receive the results. Everyone must be prepared to stay home and quarantine for up to two weeks if you become ill with or are exposed to COVID-19. We know being quarantined for two weeks will be extremely challenging, but it is absolutely necessary to stop the spread of the virus. Learn how you can prepare for a possible quarantine. Our nurses will be working closely with MDH to notify students and staff as soon as possible if you have been exposed to COVID-19 at school. Always answer your phone if MDH is calling. If you have questions, please contact the licensed nurse at your school. More detail and helpful information can also be found on our Wayzata Learns webpage. Staying Safe at School We are busy preparing our buildings and staff for the start of the new school year, with a big focus on preventing the spread of COVID-19 within our staff and student body. All of our buildings have optimal ventilation and enhanced cleaning and sanitation procedures are in place. Our school principals have established new guidelines for everything from entering the building to eating lunch. We need you to understand and follow them so that we can all stay safe and prevent the spread of the virus. Staying Safe at School Overview Bus Safety in Wayzata Public Schools Students demonstrate how to ride the bus and what to do in the event of an emergency.
Community Ed Join us in our online classrooms! We have many opportunities for our youth and adult learners. You can find all our class options on our registration site. Healthy Parents, Healthy Kids - Navigating the stress and isolation of COVID-19 has presented added challenges for parenting our kids. How can we as parents support each other in our efforts to help our kids build and maintain resilience, self-esteem, and mental health in the midst of a pandemic? Parents of elementary-age children are invited to join a parent support group facilitated by Judy Hoy, DSW and Chithra Binoy. Financial assistance is available or call 763-745-5200 for more information.
