Wayzata High School

Dear Wayzata High School Students and Parents/Guardians,

We are so excited for the start of the school year! Our teachers have been at school planning to make this experience the very best given the circumstances. At this point you should have received a welcome video from your teachers. All Canvas classes will be live by Monday morning. Below are some important reminders and updates; please review these to make for a smooth start to the fall semester.

What to do on the first day of school (Tomorrow: Monday, September 14)
Students will be expected to Zoom into their classes at the beginning of each block. Teachers will be sending this information to students via email and/or Canvas. All Canvas courses have been built using a template, so navigating courses will be streamlined and consistent.

Reminder of student distance learning responsibilities:

  • Attend live video conference classes held during your regularly scheduled blocks.
    • If there is a reason live attendance presents a challenge, students must reach out to their teacher and/or student support team.
  • Develop a consistent daily study schedule designated for distance learning.
    • Access your Canvas Calendar frequently to identify due dates and task lists for learning activities, assignments and assessments.
    • Check your email throughout the day, each day, for communication from teachers or high school staff.
    • Access teachers often with questions via their school phone number, email, or Google Calendar meeting requests.
    • Find your ideal study environment - establish a designated space that is free from distractions.
    • Keep your space and study materials organized.
  • Practice effective communication through writing as often as you can.

WHS Hub - student sign up for academic work spaces

Students can sign up for academic work spaces via the WHS Hub if they plan to stay at WHS between hybrid classes or before/after a hybrid class and our bus schedule. Teacher availability will also be posted, allowing students to sign up for help sessions with their teachers. Teachers may request students during this time, as well. Please review the WHS Hub Student Support Sessions Instructions. Note: the sign-up will allow students to sign up for two weeks into the future. Students will be limited to Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday according to their A/B group.

Transitioning between classes

If you are participating in a hybrid class (attending in-person at WHS), social distancing expectations will be in place. Masks will be required. The daily schedule will be followed. Students will be asked to study in culinary during passing time and check-in when arriving in culinary. If students have their own transportation, they are welcome to exit at the end of the class period from the main WHS entrance or athletics entrance.
