Fall Planning Update – August 12, 2020 Dear WPS Families and Staff,
As I shared yesterday, the Wayzata School Board unanimously passed a resolution to start the 2020-21 school year in a hybrid model. This action has also provided much-needed flexibility to move between learning models to respond to COVID-19, the feedback from our community, as well as to the needs of our schools to be able to deliver high-quality education for all our students.
Wayzata High School Changing to a Modified Hybrid Model In order to best meet the learning and safety needs of our high school students in grades 9-12, Wayzata High School (WHS) will be making a modification to its hybrid model. This modified hybrid learning model will generally allow students to keep their original schedules and course selections intact. Specific courses that rely upon hands-on and experiential learning will be identified for a hybrid model of instruction following the A/B schedule, while other courses will be offered through a distance learning (remote) model of instruction. As a result, WHS families no longer need to "opt-in" for the Wayzata Distance Choice option. If you have already opted into Wayzata Distance Choice no further action is necessary. Principal Scott Gengler will send an email to all WHS families on Friday, August 14 with additional information and details about this modified hybrid learning model. We appreciate your patience while we finalize new details.
More Information about Wayzata Distance Choice As promised, our website has been updated to provide more information about Wayzata Distance Choice, an option for K-8 families who are not comfortable with hybrid or in-person learning. The deadline to opt in to Wayzata Distance Choice has been extended to Friday, August 14 at 8 a.m. Families who don't opt in to Wayzata Distance Choice will be notified of their A/B assignment in the hybrid model on August 19. Once again, Wayzata High School students should not opt in Wayzata Distance Choice.
Our planning for the 2020-21 school year continues to evolve rapidly and I greatly appreciate your continued support and patience as we navigate these very challenging times. We care deeply for our students, staff and families and remain committed to providing the best learning experiences possible. I will continue to stay in touch with regular updates and encourage you to visit our Wayzata Learns web page for the most current information.
Be well,
Chace B. Anderson Superintendent |
