Dear Oakwood Families,
As the tragic death of George Floyd and recent incidents have shaken our city and country, I find myself struggling to make sense of what has happened and am reminded of the important work we need to do to help ensure a safe and hopeful future for all children. As Superintendent Anderson recently shared, we still have much work to do to address systemic racism, inequities and disparities that exist in our country. As I think about the role of our school community in supporting the health and well-being of our students, I believe that it is essential that children feel heard, supported, accepted and connected.
So, even as our school year comes to a close, I want all families to know that we are still here to support and to provide some professional resources during these difficult times. If you have questions or would like to discuss I am here and happy to engage in a conversation now and throughout the summer. As a parent, I am sorting through how to navigate answering some difficult questions. Amy Lien, our social worker, is also available to assist. We are all here to continue to support our Oakwood family.
* If purchasing books is not possible, many libraries also have these books in multiple formats. They may also be accessible on MackinVia or EpicBooks. Regards,
