Wayzata High School
Update regarding Senior Days & End of the School Year

Dear Wayzata High School Seniors and Families,

I hope you are all gearing-up for Senior Days scheduled for this coming Friday and Monday. This letter contains very important information to help you navigate a seamless conclusion to the school year.

Bridge Walk and Tailgating

It has been brought to my attention that some of our seniors are planning the traditional bridge walk, followed by tailgating on school grounds for Thursday, May 28. The bridge walk is a long-standing tradition here at Wayzata High School and I have had the privilege of helping our seniors coordinate this event safely in recent years. Unfortunately, due to the current state-mandated large gathering and social distance restrictions that are in place, I cannot support or help coordinate any events like these for this school year.

More specifically, I need to discourage any senior from participating in such events and I am asking for your cooperation. There is no doubt that it has been a very difficult year with the loss of so many treasured traditions for the Class of 2020. As I have shared with you before, I feel terribly about how this has evolved during your senior year. Sadly, having a large gathering like this could unnecessarily increase the risk of exposure to COVID-19 for you and your family, other students and their families, your friends and our fellow community members. Additionally, we will not have the traditional security measures in place on Peony Lane to ensure student safety on a heavily traveled roadway. In short, please no bridge walk and no tailgating events. Neither is safe to do this year. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Virtual Graduation

In the event that our August 1 commencement ceremony gets cancelled, we will be providing a virtual graduation ceremony. If you haven't already responded, please fill out the Virtual Commencement Requests Form. Please submit this form as soon as possible to give our readers time to practice your names and our editors time to compile images and videos. Submissions will not be accepted past May 28. We will be sending a follow-up form on May 29, requesting video of you, in your graduation gown, throwing your cap in celebration. These submissions will help personalize our virtual ceremony.
