Principal's Message This is our final edition of the Classroom Update this year. This has been the most challenging year that many of us have ever experienced. But through challenge emerges exceptional achievement. I would like to acknowledge the amazing efforts of our students as they participated in distance learning. Parents became even more critical partners in creating an educational experience for their child. Teachers created phenomenal online learning experiences in ways that have never been done before in Wayzata Public Schools. Our Paras, Counselor and Social Worker continued to provide excellent support to our schools and students in a variety of ways. Culinary Express rallied to feed our community. Our custodial staff continued to keep our facilities safe and well maintained. Finally, a huge thank you to our secretaries for keeping us organized, directing communication, and designing the school materials pick up system.
Thank you for supporting education in the Wayzata Public Schools community! Stay safe and well.
EMS Qua-Run-Tine Virtual 5K It's not too late to show East Mode! The EMS Qua-Run-Tine Virtual 5K is open for running/walking from May 30 through June 6, though participants are strongly encouraged to run/walk as a sign of unity any time of day on June 3. Registration is still open. Sign-up, take a run/walk with family, and use our custom made race completion banner from our website to share your finish line picture. Participants who submit a picture will be entered into a prize drawing. Thank you to those of you who have already registered. Let's get outdoors this week and have fun, celebrating the end of the school year in a positive way! You can run by East and read all of the heart messages to you from our staff! Remember, running/walking aren't cancelled! Stay safe EMS.
Wayzata High School Athletic Survey Our high school strives to provide a variety of athletic teams on which students can participate, and your help is vital. If your child is interested in participating in high school sports during 7th grade, please accurately fill out your child's personal information on this survey and check any sports that your student might be interested in. The survey helps with planning purposes and distribution of information to students and parents. This information will only be used by Wayzata Public Schools coaches.
EMS Media Commons - Resources Available Online There are many ways to get books and other materials online. Beth Benezra, our Media Specialist, has created a Canvas course for students that will lead them to those places. Also in the Canvas course are reminders of where to go for reliable research tools, how to apply for a Hennepin County library card, and what to do to request an Honor's Reading conference. If you have other questions, please email Beth Benezra.

Around the District Distance Learning End-of-Year Parent Survey We want to hear your voice regarding how well we delivered on our goal of providing high-quality, inviting, and accessible instruction for all students during Distance Learning this spring. Your honest feedback will help us improve our Distance Learning practices in the future. All parents and guardians received an email from K12 Insight, our survey partner, the week of May 25. The survey is anonymous and no one from the District will know if you participate or how you answered the questions. The final survey results will show the overall findings and themes. This survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete and will be open until June 10. If you have more than one student enrolled in the Wayzata Public Schools, you can click on the link at the end of the survey to take the survey again. Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. Wayzata Education Fund’s Thank a Teacher Program We have the best teachers and staff around, and never has it been clearer than during these unprecedented times. Whether they’ve helped make a difference in person or virtually this year, show your appreciation by participating in our Thank a Teacher program. From May 4 to June 3, any donation you make to the Wayzata Education Fund honoring a teacher or staff will come with a certificate of appreciation from your student. Additionally, if you donate $25 or more, they will also receive a bundlet from Nothing Bundt Cakes Minnetonka. Say thank you and support a good cause at the same time! Certificates will be sent via email. Bundlets will be delivered at a later date when it is deemed safe to do so, and when teachers and staff are back on school property. What can I do to protect myself and others?
We've had so many great Ask Ali questions in our inbox – thanks to all who have submitted! Ali, along with her network of local experts, has been working hard to answer these questions. Responses are posted every Monday on her blog at partnersinpreventionmn.org/askali. Parents, you've got to check out the responses to these questions! There are some interesting ones that have been asked; chances are you might be wondering some of these things.

Destination Imagination’s Global Finals 2020 Virtual Tournament (GF20) is a one-of-a-kind collaborative problem-solving experience that takes place online and is open to all students and families (yes, you read that right!) who enjoy being creative, collaborative, and solving fun challenges that require out-of-the-box thinking. You do not need to have been on a Destination Imagination (DI) team for the 2019-20 DI season in order to participate. GF20 is a whole new experience and is open to everyone! For Global Finals 2020, you will work with your DI teammates, friends, or family members online to participate in several different Challenge Experiences. The cost to participate in the Global Finals 2020 Virtual Tournament is $199. Your team may participate in as many or as few of these Challenge Experiences as you choose. GF20 teams will compete for a number of awesome awards and prizes! We’re excited to welcome everyone to the Summer of Creativity and hope you’ll join us for this historic, one-time-only event!
