From the Desk of Dr. G Curbside Pick-up and Book Drop-off Process Thursday May, 28 families are invited to come to Greenwood to pick up any personal belongings for your student(s) that are essential for you to have over the summer. Greenwood staff is requesting you complete the Curbside Item Request form no later than May 25. We anticipate our school being closed over the summer.
Please follow these strict district guidelines on May 28 for curbside pickup:
The following times are suggested for collecting your child's belongings on Thursday, May 28:
Important Note: If you don't feel safe or are unable to pick-up your child's supplies, please let us know. We have the option of allowing a neighbor to pick-up your child's belongings and it's totally okay for you to give the school permission to donate or recycle any leftover belongings that are recyclable. Unfortunately, due to summer construction and a building-wide furniture project, our ability to store unclaimed items is extremely limited. Our plan is to try and get most art projects to students next fall. End-of-Year Celebrations As we get closer to the end of the school year, I wanted to provide some information about end-of-year celebrations. The safety of all our students, families and staff continues to be our first priority and in order to stay in compliance with state guidelines surrounding COVID-19, the decision has been made not to hold any end-of-year parties, parades or other celebrations across the district. I know this is extremely disappointing. Our teachers will be creating virtual experiences that will provide opportunities for all of us to bring closure to the school year. We miss our students more than you know and greatly appreciate your understanding as we continue to do our very best to connect with your child and keep everyone safe during this challenging situation.
Grading and Report Cards Distance Learning has changed the learning environment, and–in response–our report cards will change, too. This spring, elementary report cards will be marked only in the following areas of focus: reading, writing and math. Student learning is enhanced through student engagement and personalized feedback. While there may not be official grades in some content areas or in personal management skills, teachers have provided and will continue to create engaging activities and provide this personalized feedback to students. Thank you for your continued support in having your child engage in their learning activities as we wrap up the 2019-2020 school year. Your partnership is greatly appreciated.
In partnership,
Brad Gustafson, Principal
Did You Know? Honoring Our Retirees Our school is forged from the contributions of countless people who have invested in students' lives over the years. Teachers, parents, paraprofessionals, businesses, and PTA volunteers...to name a few. We wanted to let you know four members of our school community are retiring at the end of this year. These educators have helped our staff, students, and school in so many ways:
Saying thank you for a lifetime of service during a school closure hardly seems ideal (especially when working with students and families is the most meaningful thing we get to do). However, we believe we might be able to celebrate our retirees from a distance by sharing simple memories. If you or your child have a memory or thank you to share, please email it to Kristen Smith by Friday, May 22 and we will be sure it gets to the specific person you mention in your email.
Reminders Lifetouch Photos and Credits Lifetouch has experienced government mandated shut-downs in some of their production facilities which has impacted the composite class picture production. Composite pictures for the 2019-2020 school year will not be delivered to families, any family that had ordered a class composite picture may contact Lifetouch Customer Service at 1-800-736-4753 or through the Lifetouch website to request a payment refund.
As a token of appreciation, Lifetouch will be providing $10 vouchers for each student to be used toward 2020-2021 school photos. More details will be forthcoming.
Order 2020-2021 School Supply Kits Now The PTA is partnering with 1st Day School Supplies to offer school supply kits for next school year. This optional service provides Greenwood families a convenient way to purchase school supplies without having to go to the store. Your student's kit containing all necessary school supplies will be waiting in your child's classroom at open house, and a percentage of sales will benefit Greenwood. Online ordering will be accepted through June 15. If you have any questions, please contact Heather Mueller.
PTA News Classroom Theme Basket Auction Postponed The Greenwood PTA has decided to postpone our Theme Basket Silent Auction until next school year. Upon the cancellation of Carnival, we initially hoped to still host the silent auction later this spring; however, due to the continued health and safety restrictions around accessing the school building, we are unable to do so. We appreciate your patience and understanding. We also want to say a huge thanks again to families who donated items or money to their child's Classroom Theme Basket, and the volunteers who helped us arrange and wrap the baskets. We look forward to auctioning off the baskets when school resumes in the fall! Please contact PTA President Karin Helmey with any questions.

Whether they’ve helped make a difference in person or virtually this year, show your appreciation by participating in our Thank a Teacher program. From May 4 to June 3, any donation you make to the Wayzata Education Fund honoring a teacher or staff will come with a certificate of appreciation from your student. Additionally, if you donate $25 or more, they will also receive a bundlet from Nothing Bundt Cakes Minnetonka. Say thank you and support a good cause at the same time!
