Morning Drop-Off Communication
Thank you for all you do to help your child start the day successfully. Families that choose to drop off their child(ren) may do so starting at 7:30 a.m.; this allows us to ensure we have supervision in place as students start to enter the building. Our final bell rings at 7:45 a.m. and students are asked to be in their classrooms by this time. The school day ends at 2:25 p.m.

Most of our students take the bus to school each morning, but we recognize some families prefer to drop their child(ren) off. We've noticed things work well when we follow the drop-off process below. Thanks for your cooperation and for helping to keep kids safe.

  • If you drive your child(ren) to school, please pull up to the drop-off curb and remain in the vehicle.
  • Encourage your child to be ready to exit right away.
  • Do not pull ahead multiple times; ask your child to exit the vehicle the first time you pull up to the curb.
  • Students should exit to the curbside only.
  • Parents who wish to get out of their vehicles should park in the regular parking lot and walk their child across the crosswalk.
  • Please drive with extreme caution and follow all traffic/parking rules.
  • Do not drive through parking spaces or try to take shortcuts.
  • Thanks for your cooperation and helping to keep kids safe.

Parent Resource - Restitution 101
Our school has started a Restitution journey and we want to partner with you by sharing information over the course of the school year. Our goal is to strengthen students and empower them to live, learn, and lead with empathy, self-confidence, and the ability to fix mistakes. Part of this work involves teaching students the basic needs.

I'm making my way to different grade-levels and reading a book about belonging called Natsumi! by Susan Lendroth. If you're interested in learning more about the basic needs you can check out this blog post.

If there is anything I can do to support your family please let me know.

Kind regards,
Brad Gustafson, Principal

Did You Know?

All 5th grade students will attend a meeting on Monday, September 17, to learn about KICKS (Kids In Community Kare and Service).  Students will be invited to join KICKS to help build a better school, community and world.  Each of them will be given an application that must be completed and returned by Friday, September 21. This is a student only meeting, but most future meetings and projects will need parent volunteers. Contact Deanna Nicoll at deannanicoll@me.com with questions.

Your child can discreetly receive a bag of food from The Sheridan Story to take home on Fridays. It's completely free and your family's privacy is protected - you only need to sign up. Contact Greenwood social worker Amy Rehbine at Amy.Rehbine@wayzataschools.org or 763-745-5507.

New School Year, New and Improved Meals Program!

Just as our school is working to make sure students receive the best education possible, our district's Culinary Express program is making changes to provide students and staff with healthy and tasty nutritional options to better support learning. Changes, which were made in response to parent feedback last spring and will not affect the price of school meals, include:

  • Reducing artificial colors, high fructose corn syrup, artificial preservatives and bleached flour.
  • Serving more whole grains and less sugar. This includes reducing the frequency of when we offer chocolate milk and juice.
  • Partnering with a local food hub to emphasize local foods and increase student and parent education about nutrition in fun ways.

Please watch for more information from Culinary Express about these exciting changes and encourage your students to try the new, fun and healthy foods being offered this school year.

PTA News

Grizzly Dash & Grizzly Gathering

The 4th Annual Grizzly Dash, our largest annual fundraiser, is Friday, September 28 during school hours. This school-wide event allows students and families to have fun while being physically active and to raise money to support Greenwood – our goal this year is $30,000.  If our goal is met, a total of at least 10 mystery Greenwood teachers/staff will be slimed!

Following the Grizzly Dash, there will be an evening celebration, the Grizzly Gathering, held on the school lawn from 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. Join us for great food, music, bouncy houses, Time & Talent raffle prizes, and special visits from Plymouth Fire and Police departments!

More information will come home with students on Monday, September 17 and please visit the Greenwood PTA website today to register for our web-based fundraising system, view the Grizzly Dash run schedule, and sign up for one of many volunteer positions needed to make the fundraiser a success!
