Update from Principal Gengler: April 16, 2020 Dear Wayzata High School Community,
I hope this email continues to find you all safe and healthy. This morning, we were notified that the University of Minnesota has canceled all non-curricular events for May and June. Unfortunately, our graduation ceremony falls into this category. As a result, our tentative backup date has been pushed back. We are now confirmed for the evening of Saturday, August 1, 2020, to hold graduation for the Class of 2020 at Mariucci Arena. (Please note this is a change in date from a previous communication.)
We have been holding off as long as possible to make decisions regarding prom and our Senior Awards Ceremony. Although the Governor has not yet officially declared expectations for social distancing beyond May 5, he has extended the peacetime emergency for the state through May 13. As a result, we are also officially cancelling prom (scheduled for Saturday, May 16), and our Senior Awards Ceremony (scheduled for Monday, May 18). I am so sorry!
Even though this may have been anticipated, it is still incredibly heartbreaking and disappointing news to have to hear. I feel so badly for our seniors and their families. Please know we will work with you to ensure we are able to recognize and celebrate our senior class and award winners as soon as we have the green light to do so.
While this is unfortunate news, I do want to reassure our school community that we are in this together—we are a school community of one. Together, we will lead our school community to a positive outcome. I promise!
With gratitude, |
