Reminder: WHS Course Requests Due next week! 8th grade Parents/Guardians: This is a friendly reminder that Wayzata High School course requests are due next Tuesday, February 18. Please review the information below and follow-up with a member of your WHS Student Support Team if you have any questions. The WHS Registration website has a complete guide to registration, where you will find the 2019-20 Course Registration Guide and additional information / resources. We offer a wide variety of diverse, challenging learning opportunities and highly encourage you to meet with your student and assist her or him in the course selection process. It is very important that students choose their courses carefully. Revisions to course selections after the registration window is closed are highly discouraged and can only be made with approval. Frequently asked questions: - Parents/Guardians will receive a letter if their student qualifies for Enriched Physical Science (Course 409). There is a summer test-in option for students that did not meet the prerequisites. Visit our Summer Test-In/Test-Out website for more information.
- Students who are enrolled in 8th Grade Accelerated Math may choose from Geometry or Accelerated Geometry. These courses are available for 8th grade students to sign up for: Geometry, Course 304 or Accelerated Geometry Course 305.
- All students should sign up for 16 credits and select at least 5 alternate courses. Alternate courses are used as a back-up in case a course request is unavailable for a variety of reasons, including schedule conflicts and course demand.
- Course selections are automatically saved in Skyward. There is not a submit or complete button.
- All students are eligible to enroll in every-other-day courses. These courses end with a "YO" (year, every-other) or "SO" (semester, every-other). An alternate day course schedule offers several unique benefits for students. Students are able to stay with the same teacher and class over a longer period of time; this allows for deeper connections between the teacher and the student, allowing for greater personalization. Many students also find the additional processing time beneficial, especially when learning about complex topics. Finally, many students who have taken an alternate day course appreciate the additional flexibility in their schedule, as students will have a minimum of two days to complete assignments. Many students, especially those planning on attending a post-secondary institution, report that the skills they learned managing a Day 1/Day 2 schedule, led to an easier transition to college.
- You may not be able to directly enroll in some courses in Skyward because prerequisites need to be verified. This is true for students who have participated in UMTYMP, are planning on enrolling in Enriched Physical Science, or have been part of Qtal. Please contact your G/T Coordinator from your middle school for assistance.
- Check out the "FAQs for 9th Graders" handout to review the common electives for freshmen.
