Principal's Note Oakwood's Student Council held a coin war between grade levels, that ended at Family Service Night, to raise money for Pennies for Patients. Third grade was the grade level that collected the most money, which won them a popcorn party!
Student Council members presented a giant check for $3629.72, to a representative from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, at an all school assembly on December 20. We are so proud of all our students for their generosity and compassion!

Oakwood Construction Construction is underway on the new Wayzata Early Learning School that is being built as an addition to Oakwood Elementary School.
Oakwood Author Visit Hena Khan will be visiting Oakwood students on February 27. She is the author of several picture books and middle-grade chapter books, including the Maud Hart Lovelace award nominee, Amina's Voice. If your student would like to purchase one of Ms. Khan's books and have it autographed by her, please print the order form and send it with cash or a check to the Media Center. All orders are due on Tuesday, January 28.
Reminders Class Snack Time All students have a snack time during the school day. Many students come to school without one. Parents should pack a healthy snack for their children everyday. If your child eats breakfast at school and didn't bring a snack, they can bring wrapped items back from breakfast to eat at snack time.
Taking Students Home If you wish to have someone other than yourself pick up your child, please remember to call the school office (763-745-5700) in advance, to let us know who is coming. For safety reasons, we want to make sure the pick up has been authorized by you.
Kindergarten 2020 - 2021 Info Night for Parents Kindergarten registration time is here! If you have a child who will be turning five (5) on or before September 1, please register today. Registering early is very important, as it enables us to plan for staffing and class size.There will be a kindergarten information night for parents only on Thursday, January 30, 5:00-6:00 p.m. The principal and a kindergarten teacher will be there to answer questions you may have. You will also be able to get information about Wayzata Kids (formerly Home Base), our district's after-school child care program and the Que Tal Spanish Program.

Reflections Art Awards Ceremony The Reflections Art awards ceremony is tonight, Thursday, January 9 in the gym, 6:30-7:30 p.m. We will view the artwork and recognize each of our artists. The students moving on to the Minnesota PTA State-Level competition this Spring will be announced!

Our guest this month is Kristin Tollison, Director of Administrative Services at Wayzata Public Schools. She will be addressing the safety of the schools in Wayzata Public Schools. Kristin will be joined by our public safety liaison in discussing school safety and emergency management. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation.

Around the District January Wayzata Legislative Action Committee Update Cold, Flu, and Lice… What Can You Do to Help? Head lice are a common problem for children in childcare settings and schools and anybody can get it. Most cases of head lice are acquired outside of school. Remember to check your child’s head after returning from a play date or sleepover – two common settings where head lice are spread. Regular observation by parents can also be an effective way to detect and quickly treat head lice. More information is available on the Minnesota Department of Health or CDC websites as well as ways to treat head lice. When to keep your child home from school We've had so many great Ask Ali questions in our inbox – thanks to all who have submitted! Ali, along with her network of local experts, has been working hard to answer these questions. Responses are posted every Monday on her blog at partnersinpreventionmn.org/askali.
