Information for Tuesday, February 25 Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
This year, our district has established Tuesday, February 25, 2020, as our College/Career Planning and ACT testing date. As you may know, the ACT exam is a powerful predictor of college readiness and used primarily as an entrance criteria by most colleges and universities. Legislation requires all juniors to have an opportunity to complete the ACT as a means to measure college and career readiness. We will be using this day to administer ACT products to all students in grades 9-11. Important details:
The schedule for the day is broken down by student grade level:
Grade 9 Students will take the PreACT 8/9. The PreACT 8/9 provides an early practice experience and provides an early indicator of college and career readiness. Students will finish the PreACT 8/9 by 1:00 p.m.
Grade 10 Students will take a PreACT, a 10th grade multiple-choice assessment, that helps students prepare for the experience of taking the ACT and provides information regarding their future performance on the exam. Students will finish the PreACT at 12:30 p.m. unless testing with accommodations (estimated completion time 2:30 p.m.).
Grade 11 We will administer the ACT Plus Writing exam to all of our 11th grade students, during the school day, for no charge. The results of this test may be used for college entrance purposes. Students will finish the ACT Plus Writing exam by 1:30 p.m. unless testing with accommodations.
Grade 12 Seniors are encouraged to plan and engage in meaningful college and career activities, including but not limited to college visits.
Resources All students have access to numerous online test prep resources, which can be found on our Counseling website.
MCIS also has a comprehensive test preparation component. Once a student has created an account in MCIS, they are able to take three ACT practice tests online for free. username: wayzata password: trojans The following are other ACT test prep resources available to your student:
